"We understand that debates get heated, but personal attacks and abusive language will not be tolerated"

Can we all calm down a bit please?

I've been written to several times about how abrasive and aggressive this section has become.

Several have pointed out that the language in particular has become childish and brutish, with name calling and hyperbole being especially annoying.

So let's calm down a bit. Let's stop calling people "traitors to britain" and "friends of jihad" or similarly rude things.

If you can't make your opinion felt without resorting to these personal attacks, then you'll likely be met with suspension, or banning.

All the best,

Ed

This Referendum issue is sort of like a math/maths class: It has created quite a division amongst you, and the gap is multiplying daily with the addition of acrimonious remarks which is really subtracting from the quality of the site.

Lie-in King, my intention was simply to explain, in a friendly manner, something to you that you clearly didn’t understand. Perhaps unnecessarily ‘shirty’ attitudes should be included in the subject of this thread too. They aren’t conducive to civilised discussion either! As a matter of fact I have asked TTT on several occasions to speak English. Much of the time I have no idea what he’s talking about, which is a shame really because his input here is often interesting.
Is it me......or has this thread become rather ironic?
It is a shame.
I shall not persevere for fear of being put on the naughty step, which is cold and damp and plays havoc with my haemorrhoids, but there is a place for humour in all threads, providing it does not detract from the topic or belittle any poster.
and those on the mainly left can carry on with the insults that they usually chuck around then to people who dont condemn for instance UKIP and dont follow the ideology of the left..thats where most of the insults usually emmanate from on here !?....no bias here from AB then....well well whoda thunk it
Naomi @ 16:58 - I understood you, thank you & my point stands. Apologies if you feel I was "shirty", I didn't think I was, but heigh-ho ;-)

Jackdaw @ 17:02 - a fair point, but you've missed the gist (ooh! a rhyme...) whereby the abbreviations & rhyming slang are almost always insults directed at a country, group of people or an individual poster - the very "belittling" of which you speak.

Zacs @ 17:00 - you're right, am shutting up :-)
It is the overwhelming piety and sanctimony from certain quarters which you must beware.
Lie-in King, I agreed with your point, but it saddens me that you think your response to my attempt to help you was acceptable. Never mind. I'll leave it there.
Someone else that doesn't understand....I'm shocked..
And the snide innuendo jd.
At least TTT is up front with what he has to say.
I was going to respond to this, but now I just cant be **sed,
Very well said at 17:19 Jackdaw.

hi Stoo you damned canadian ! My maths class was always ' and the definite integral is to be evaluated after integration according to the fundamental .....' and I cant remember anyone hitting another person let alone shouting

" the integral of one over ecks is log-ecks, you thick dummock !"

have I missed out ?

Oh, in one O.U. math summer school ( Durham ) c 1984 a glaswegian drinker and mathematician tried to throttle an RAF avionics math undergraduate - leaving linear horizontal bruises on his neck -characteristic of throttling - in the bar I stress and not class. Oh the tutors came over all fraughtie pooze and considered scrapping the whole of that weeks summer skool - they didnt

[ this comment is on violence in maths classes - mathematicians as Jim360 will concur are usually quite timid and shy ... ]
Bliss......x

this is a thread on Math and not Logic, right ?

Hello, Petah. It sounds like you had much more fun in skool than I did; however, be very careful: You're going off on a tangent, and also interjecting some humor into the thread.
Humour, that is.
Thanks, Ed.
Humour, Stuey, not humor. Remember your roots.
