There is a time and place for everything, why do the gay community find the need to flaunt their sexuality at every opportunity?

/// More like much more fearful times.
Gays were dressing up behind closed (pub/bar)doors in NYC 60 years ago...no reason to think they didn't do the same here. A bit naive to think otherwise. ///

How can 60 years ago be considered these days.

/// But then in those days we lived in much more dignified times. ///

Perhaps you should not only read the rest of the posts, but before you do perhaps it would be wise to read the one you have chosen to criticise properly.
I should also say I wondered if this was a generational thing (having an issue with 'the gays'.

But I just spoke to my father who is in his 70's and he was all well done on them so nope nothing to do with age just bitter perhaps!

/// Yes, Paddy, as the law states! ///

Thank goodness the law doesn't state that you can't believe that marriage is between a Man and a Woman?

/// You really are a class act AOG. ///

So pleased that you can appreciate one EC, because there are some terrible ones on here.
I think what we have to accept is that there are people, like AOG who do not like Pride marches (as his previous posts attest).

Not everyone can be progressive. Some will yearn for past times, when being gay could get you thrown in jail.

Just as we should not judge people who yearn for the past, we should not expect them to adopt our ideals.

Not everyone can.
Awh, he was just being spontaneous. So romantic! Have you no romance in your soul, aog?
Out of interest AOG...if you were at a packed restaurant and a man got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, would you applaud at her 'Yes', or would you quietly mutter that they should not be flaunting their sexuality?

It would be a tad silly to attend a Gay Pride occasion and not expect gays to be present in large numbers.

Also stated people of all walks of life have proposed publicly at work or on other very public occasions.

I see and hear things every day that may not sit well with me, I may sigh but I move on and don't start a fuss.

But it's true. Some people really do want to turn back the clock, and if you go back to the time the they yearn for, that is what was happening.

You cannot yearn for a time before gay people enjoyed the rights that straight people always assume, without the concomitant negative social and legal constraints.

I fully support you in your wish not to have gay people 'inflicting themselves' on you.

I'm not 100% sure what that means...but whatever it is, it sounds uncomfortable.
Divebuddy....when I hold my partners hand in the street or give him a kiss (not snog) do you think I'm shoving it down your throat that I'm straight? If you don't then that's the problem.
Some of us just don't like flamboyant; "spontaneous"; oh, look at me; please take pictures; this'll make the papers; selfish ostentatious public posturing.

Practically everything you write brings a smile to my face.

You are...an ally.

///if you were at a packed restaurant and a man got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, would you applaud at her 'Yes', or would you quietly mutter that they should not be flaunting their sexuality?///

Would this man be in Uniform and representing his employer at the time?
My Dad used to say I made Perry Como look frenetic I was so laid back.
Stuey...there's something we all don't like but we keep schtum about it
If the Met started asking their officers to attend restaurants, why not.

I'd cheer.
Baldric

Yes...let's go with that.

But if we go with that, then the restaurant would have to be Balans.
