Danny, there's no exit poll as it's a one-to-one relationship between your vote and the outcome. Exit polls are useful for when constituencies are being counted, but serve little purpose on this scale? That was my thinking anyway.

No exit poll = easier to fiddle..
LOL - shall we do ANOTHER one?
We know what it would show on here. I can't see it being any different to the other EU polls on here.
What do you mean by 'official exit poll'- won't there be one on BBc/ITV/Sky tonight?
No exit poll = easier to fiddle.
How does that work then?

that's right FF, the normal exit poll you'd get, in a GE for example, is not allowed. I can only assume that early poll announcements may effect those yet to vote.
No one asked me when I exited.
But maybe I was too early for the pollsters to be there. Wasn't even any TV crews wanting to film me trying to save the nation either. Strange that.
We don't deserve your selfless heroism O_G.
coz exit pollz are never official

and thank you editor for detecting some of us are suffering from Brexit fatigue
Editor is right: no poll as it would be totally unreliable
My own 'exit poll': of the 6 I know the vote, of: 5 Remain and 1 Leave - would be about as much use

nay - we SALUTE your selfless heroism OG
Exit polls in General Elections do not happen everywhere. The polls take place in a few selected marginal constituencies. Those most likely to change one way or another, are seen as a barometer for the rest of the country.

In this referendum, voting is going across party lines. So there are no marginals, or if there are, no one knows where they are. After Scotland and Wales which will be safe Remain voters, the rest is very mixed, so it would be impossible to do an accurate national poll.
Peter Pedant - yes, I see things are becoming a little frayed... I am suffering from it too to be honest. I am hoping to get my vote done this evening and then try not to think about it for a bit.

I know we will be flooded tomorrow with the media snuffling for truffles in the corpse of the vote - but I only need to know the score, not the analysis.

I wondered if there was anything else going on... but it just seems that the US Dems are pretending to be protestors about some really rubbish gun legislation... So that's no less depressing.

ED can I have an avatar again yet?
I think any exit poll on AB for the referendum would just mirror the voting intention poll already carried out.

I'm just hoping that the overwhelming LEAVE result was down to AB demographics and will not be mirrored in the real result

I think it’s time for silent reflection preparing yourself for withdrawal symptoms
General election exit polls work because they compare the exit poll to the previous exit poll and the previous actual result. The reason there's no exit poll is because there is no previous poll to compare it to (1975 is too far back) not because it's been banned.
I was under the impression that exit polls were banned because they could lead to instability on the stock markets.
Bookies are now 5 to 1 ON for Remain In, that's a considerable shortening from what was 3 to 1 ON over the weekend.
