Well done for raising the post ag. I am sure that had a male ABer done so, he would have been tainted by the more strident as a typical male chauvinist. Only a 12 month sentence mind.
//Cox – known as Miss Dunlop until her marriage during the grooming campaign – met the boy when he was 13.
She would give him sweets but initiated a sexual affair after he turned 16.//
Prudie....I agree that this stupid and calculating woman isn't a paedophile in the dictionary definition of the word, but its obvious to everybody that she is an abuser.
If she had been a male teacher, grooming a 13 years old girl, there would be far more uproar about the affair.
So do I, Islay, so called intelligent folk often getting the definition wrong. However, in this case it did begin with grooming from aged 13, the case getting it bang on with 'sex with someone under her charge' - effectively, teachers take on a care of 'in loco parentis' with their charges.
I know each case has to be judged on its own merits but my point remains that the reporting and reactions are very different when an 'ordinary' person is involved compared to a celebrity or more well known person. The implication being that a more well known person is expected to behave differently or somehow must be perceived as being treated unfairly.
a different charge from the one Johnson faced, aog. The age limit for ths particular one - involving being in a position of trust - is 18. Johnson just faced a regular charge of underage sex, which involved the usual age of consent, 16.
Hi AG - you've mentioned it, that's very much the point of this section. We encourage people to add good headlines for the news story they want to comment on. Please give it a go next time rather than casting aspersions on the congregation!
Ed - my apologies for the weak headline. Certainly wasn't my intention to be accusatory towards the AB community and can see on reflection that my choice of words could have been far better.
