/// Traditions are wonderful and yes, a great part of our heritage - but change is essential too, both in the Armed Forces and beyond. ///

If change is essential, then soon we will no longer possess any traditions and our heritage will be gone forever.

Is that what you want?
No.

All that may well be, but he should not be allowed to join the brigade of guards if he is not prepared to don it's traditional ceremonial uniform.
Guards is no problem - he could wear his turban under his bearskin and nobody would know.
//The Regiment says it is proud to be writing another chapter in it's long history.//

The Guards are happy to progress and adapt and yes traditions are fantastic, however we cannot live in a snapshot of years gone by - time marches on.

I seriously doubt this has any adverse effect on our armed forces at all.
Why is the word 'foreigner' used in the OP?
Presumably TTT knows more about Captain Simratpal Singh (US Army) in the link than we do.
Either that, or he didn't read the article correctly.

Equally, the guards didn't have to accept his application to join them. They obviously wanted him because he is a bloody good soldier.

And how would they know that, if he joined straight from civvy street?
Royal guards don't come straight from civvy street AOG.

Well they would say that, obviously a move by the establishment in their constant move for diversity. Ask those actually in the uniform, and they would not be too happy to see the traditional uniform they don with pride
altered in such a way.

Incidentally I happen to know for a fact that this Sikh guardsman actually wanted to wear the traditional bear skin headgear, but he was not allowed.

One more example were the white liberal left (those who always seem to be offended for others) do nothing towards achieving racial harmony.

/// Royal guards don't come straight from civvy street AOG. ///

I did not say they did, a person chooses to join the guard's regiments straight from civvy street, and it is after their basic training that they later become Royal Guards as part of their duties, taking into consideration that they are still an active infantry regiment, and have to carry out tours of active duty.
aog; //incidentally I happen to know for a fact that this Sikh guardsman actually wanted to wear the traditional bear skin headgear, but he was not allowed.//

I'd be interested to hear more on that please.
AOG

// Well they would say that...//

Always a good stand by in a debate.

Have you a link to the fact that this Guardsman was disallowed the Bearskin but made to wear his Turban instead?
