// Doctors are concerned they will be under pressure to work longer hours, risking patient safety.//

… but they don’t mind risking patient safety today when they withdraw emergency cover at A&E and intensive care units. Hypocrites!

Mikey, //Doctors are not hairy-*** Dockers, or British Leyland workers ! //

Do you mean doctors should be afforded privileges denied to the rest of the country's workforce - and if so, why?
For what it's worth, I support the strike 100%.

Hypocrites being led by the BMA for a political agenda. Thousands have to work at times that doesn't always suit them, - and for far less reward, and certainly far less prospects than an eventual £100,000+ salary, plus a fantastic pension.
I'm sick of listening to their spoilt whining.

Naomi..........the meaning of what I said is perfectly clear, so don't be so obtuse ! ( remember...you don't do obtuse )
Me too Bathy. I listened to Hunt a few minutes ago.....Its obvious to me...get rid of him and we might see some progress.... he has completely cocked this whole affair up.
well it is a point of view

the consultants are covering and doing some proper work for a change

the difficulty dear Nigh is that you employer ( if you were a dr ) has changed your contract and said - "o well I think it is fair, really so get on and do it"

the small detail is that the hospitals can also now certify they are safe - excuse me what did you say ?
and there are a few other things you havent heard about ....

on five days pay the ministry is gonna run a seven day service ..... yeah good one

did I hear someone say 'hypocrites ' ?
Did you mean, they went on strike at the drop of a hat?
Svejk is right at 07.37. That woman on Question Time had them nailed.
// Do you mean doctors should be afforded privileges denied to the rest of the country's workforce - and if so, why? //

yes my sweet I do
because they arent hairy dockworkers heaving inert bags of flour around
( erm the parallel is that the dockworkers ar edoctors and the inert bags of flour are well - - you ...)
they are treating people like you
they therefore have to do things other than heave ... and this requires training and such things as prescribing ( correctly ) and er operating and giving injections and treating cancer and lots and lots of fings you dont see at the dockside ....

they also have duties such as confidentiality - " ere I had that lump Nigh in the back of my taxi once and god didnt she rant ? " no no they cant say that

and also they also have other duties such as the duty to treat people perhaps out of hours who swear at then and say - "you arent worf the money you are paid - you no better than a bus conductor"

without saying - " yeah well go out to the bust stop and get your sutures and ECG there ! "

Hypocrites. every naive (being used by the BMA for political purposes) last one of them.
Nope Bladers
no sign at all that they are ignorant dupes of the BMA

in fact the consultants ( who er run the BMA ) had a contract imposed 2005 which if you work in the NHS you would remember - and it was the usual thing in 2016 if the BMA didnt represent the juniors they would leave.

occurred in 1976 - juniors had their own org - and the first hospital to walk out was ... Devonport - near you wasnt it ?

Mikey, ..//........the meaning of what I said is perfectly clear//

Well I thought it was and I’m not being obtuse. Just confirming that you deem dockers and Britsh Leyland workers lesser mortals. One worth remembering the next time you go on about upper class snobs who look down on the ‘working man’. ;o)

Peter Pedant, their ‘duties’ don’t appear to take precedence today.
if deaths can be directly attributed to this action, who is morally responsible (or indeed according to law, if relatives decide to sue) - Jeremy Hunt, or the doctors themselves?

///Devonport - near you wasnt it ?///

I guess you failed O level Geography then PP.
oops sorry Balders
I thought your name came from your marine background
and there are lots of marines sudduv around Devonport ....

dont tell us you were really a bus conductor like the rest of us ?
Balders
Four Two. Would that be Argyll?
Have I got this wrong? if I had to go to A&E today I'd be better off because I'll be seen by a more experienced doctor or consultant rather than the usual overtired still inexperienced junior. The whole staffing of A&E should be reconsidered. perhaps the consultants should bear some of the blame by insisting on 9-5 weekday working only.
// Just confirming that you deem dockers and Britsh Leyland workers lesser mortals//

yup incredibly Nigh - I wanna be treated by an adquately trained doctor when I am ill who is not dog tired .... and unsupervised and with no x ray facitlities

hey every bardy - Nigh wants to be treated down the docks by a dock worker when she is gonna have a baby or be ill !
Aside from this post - never seen a surgery like mine - last Friday I had to go down 3 times between 10.30 and 11.30 and not one patient was sitting waiting (have noticed this for years) - thought there was no doctor on but she came sauntering out at one point.

Our receptionists definitely cover the doctors' back in that they are not pressurised. I got an appointment that day and came back to the house and looked at the appt slip - thinking it would be pretty soon as I had been recommended there by A&E (long story) no it is for the end of May.

Have been thinking of leaving this practice but several friends have said it is all going on in their practice too. Are yous all happy with your service.

Prudie, the term 'junior doctor' is misleading. They are not 'inexperienced'. They are //qualified medical practitioners who are working whilst engaged in postgraduate training to become a consultant or a GP.// (That last bit from the internet).
