If they can sort out the technology so it's safe, driverless isn't a problem. But convoys are, for the reasons stated in the article. Maybe they could programme them to overtake each other regularly over a distance of 10 miles at a time ?

Road trains of 3 trailers are allowed in most states , but the really long ones are restricted to the outback.
