Reasons For Leaving - Generic Answer

I am filling an application form in and one of the questions is why did I leave my last job - anyone got a couple of lines to cover this and any other times it will appear?

Obviously you have to say why you left your job!

It's pointless anyone else offering you an answer - I decided to emigrate and changed my mind / My parrot died and I needed to grieve / My husband had a sex change ...

so, best you just say why YOU left YOUR job - which is the answer your prospective employers are looking for.

if it's because you were sacked for gross misconduct it's probably pointless filling in the form

Change of direction/focus in your career, not being offered the same challenges anymore, needed to chase for more money, personal circumstances changed ie wife/hubbys job was bringing in so much more/less i felt i could take a lesser/more challenging role to compensate for less/more earnings, commute was too long and stressful......hope this helps.

Well its the same company - just a different department

One more thing - I don't want to account for the years raising children as 'Homemaker' so what can I put for that?

In that case, stretching yourself/ taking on more responsibility/developing your skills in different areas will be a acceptable reason.

If you are already employed by them what did you say regarding your 'home-making' years when you first joined?

I think 'home-making' is an entirely acceptable reason for a career break.

One more thing - as i said it is still within the same organisation - I want to say that I have worked for them since 1999 but how can I word it more formally

Having worked for the company since 1999, I feel a move to another department would give me the opportunity to broaden my skills base. It would also allow me to explore how the departments fit together as part of the whole.
