Surely it's better to let him make a fool of himself, what are the MPs afraid of?

That he's an undesirable ?
Thought the Trump thing had been discussed previously.
At least hes got the nuts to say what an awful lot of people are too scared to say....
The MPs haven't yet voted to ban him, and indeed may well not do so.
There's no way that parliament will vote to ban Trump based on this petition. This is one of those times when a strongly-worded statement is the most sensible response. Let's hope that in the long run his comments will prompt the people who matter to condemn Trump in the strongest way possible by voting against him in the Republican nomination.

I'd have thought you'd want him as the Republican nomination jim.
According to the article there will be a debate debate but not in the main chamber and there will be no vote. Even if there were a vote, I would not think it would be binding.
Not really, TTT -- if you've seen my previous posts on the subject you'd have seen that I'm not particularly keen on the idea of Hilary Clinton as president, so at the very least I'd hope that she gets a decent opposing candidate. And if Trump does get the nomination then he might even win, which is also fairly terrifying. There is no scenario I can envisage in which I'd be happy he won the nomination.

Ridiculous suggestion. This country has more important things to think about.
"the people who matter to condemn Trump in the strongest way possible"

condemn him for what ?.....if only we could stop muslims pouring into the uk...
No grounds whatever.
And it is staggering to me that this is even being debated. What a waste of time.
Well, I hope you'll forgive my treasonous remarks, baz, but I happen to think that being Muslim isn't even close to enough grounds for barring someone from the UK or the USA (and in the US it wouldn't be constitutional anyway).
This 100,000 petition rule is a curse. Mass 'one-click' sentiment should not be a pathway to a source of law. People are being tempted by these petitions to add their voices in an instant, to complex questions, which in this case involve freedom of speech.
He will not be banned, so why should our elected parliamentarians be forced to waste time in such trivia?
Isn't the usual reason given for prohibiting entry to some people is that their presence here could lead to violence?
If Trump did come here much of what he says would be classed as 'Hate Crime' . We do not have the American constitutional right to freedom of speech.
He want's to ban Muslims for a limited period in the US. Lots of UK citizens want to do likewise here..
He does not shout death to Muslims.
Muslims are free to shout death to soldiers, policeman ,Blair et al in this country and get away with it. Some Muslims, living here, preach hatred for this country and what it stands for.
I know who I would like to see banned and expelled from my country.
TTT Muslims ( or anyone ) are NOT free to shout 'death to soldiers ,policemen,Blair et al'
That is hate crime and people have been convicted and imprisoned for it.
^^ Retrocop not TTT sorry.
Eddie
OK. Perhaps not death to British police. But "British police go to hell"
You think that this scum should be given the right to free speech in the UK to say that??
Then what Trump says is nothing and pales into insignificance in comparison.

Trump might be considered a loose canon and a muppet but he wears his heart and loyalty to his country on his sleeve.
