U don't know whether you have access to Sky, but there's a series called 'Discovering Film' which you may find interesting. Each episode is a hour long, and features the life story of selected Hollywood stars from the 'golden era'. Coincidentally, I watched the episode on Maureen O'Hara last week (there's four series available to watch on catch up).

I realised that whilst I'd heard of Maureen O'Hara, I'd never seen any of her films (which I find quite odd).

Very interesting life.

With O'Hara's passing, there are now no more than a handful of stars left from that period. I don't think they've been replaced with actors of the same stature.

My favourite film. Won two Academy Awards.
Bit of trivia; four of John Wayne's children appeared in the film.

Funnily enough she was in a film on TV yesterday, before she died. She was very beautiful in How Green is my Valley.

Thank you for your interesting post sp, no I do not have Sky, since I find the TV littered with enough programmes now, the largest proportion of them utterly rubbish, although that series you mentioned looks pretty interesting.

That's certainly true, why even the so called 'Celebrities' that one now sees on chat shows and quiz programmes etc, one has to admit to have never heard of them.

Actually AOG, I was thinking more of Hollywood stars rather than the detritus that washes up on the shores of broadcast tv.

Yes but wasn't it from that 'neck of the woods' that most of the celebrities come from?

But even the so called one bit movie stars of modern day Hollywood, are not as recognisable as the old stars who had scores of films under their belts, and a life long bag of experiences that they could chat about.
