It certainly isn't madam, why should white families pay more for their dolls.

...the one with the purple hat.
the black ones dance more rhythmically too.
It would be barmy to have different quality of plastic for the two models. It would involve different production lines and would therefore be less economical. It almost certainly is not the case in this instance. There will be one production line and the only difference between the plastic used will be the colour of the pigment that is added.
I wonder if the prices would be different if they sold white golliwogs & black golliwogs?
Gromit, glad to hear that you are an expert in plastics technology, so how do they get the dolls to come out different colours if they don't use different plastics?
Jno/the black ones dance more rhythmically too./ I had no idea that skin colour in any way affected ones abilities..that statement could be a basis for forming a racist organisation.. :-)
So they will never be allowed to discount one over the other if one of them is not selling very well. If the black doll is cheaper or more expensive, they can never win. They always have to be the same price or it's racist, yawn. It's pathetic. I am sick of hearing about perceived racism where non exists. Some people are obsessed with it.
Next thing there will be someone on duty next to the dolls questioning why someone has chosen the white doll over the black one and accusing them of being racist.
Jomifl,

They have a neutral base plastic which is heated to liquify, probably clear or gray and coloured plastic pigments are added to get different colours.
I don't know if you have ever had a paint colour matched. You take the colour you want and they scan it. Then they squirt dyes into a clear paint solution and mix it on the spot. And you get paint that matches your kitchen units or furniture.
Gromit, I have had paint colour matched but moulding plastics is not quite the same as decorating a bedroom. The plastic is bought from a supplier in the form of beads which are fed into the moulding machine. The beads are supplied ready pigmented by the plastic manufacturer. If the pigment was put in with the beads the dolls would come out stripey.
Gromit has it. White dolls are more popular than black so they maximise profit by selling the most popular product at the best price it can get.
Nothing to do with 'race or colour' 100% profit motivated.
How pigmenst are made.

Different pigments are added to the base plastic, which is the same for either doll. Red and yellow and white will give a caucasian colour. Black pigment will darken that. The result is exaxtly the same quality of plastic, in two different colours, at the same cost.
You do not believe Lego uses 51 different plastics to mould its 51 coloured bricks do you?
Of course they do gromit.
i remember i loved my golliwog and that was a hand me down this was the same time my aunt had a dog called n****r
I wanted what I called a 'blackababy' when I was a toddler and got one.

Now that I'm all growed up, I still have a hankering for one. Albeit slightly larger and.................

best leave it there.
They are now the same price, Tesco say it was a pricing error.!!
