TTT doesn't always answer posts that disagree with him, though he has been known to accuse others of doing the same thing. It's a funny old world.

WR, the idea is (though of course it's hotly disputed by those who disagree with their decisions) that the supreme court doesn't make law, it just decides what the law already is. So they didn't introduce gay marriage, they just said there was nothing in the law preventing it. This has led to a change in praactice, but it didn't change the law.

Discrimination on the grounds of sexuality is already against the law, so the clerk responded by refusing to issue any licences at all, to gay or straight couples. The court then ordered her to get on and do her job - regardless of her reasons for refusing. She continued to refuse and was jailed for contempt of court.

This obviously upset some people but it's hard to see why they should have a "right" to stop other people marrying.
Jesus Himself is quoted as having said ""Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's" when asked if Christians should pay taxes.
Since this was clearly a Caesar issue (a civil marriage licence) then it looks like even her own bible doesn't support her stance.
SP, this is basically playground bullying, when kids find out that someone does not like something they go out of their way to taunt the victim with what they don't like. So rather than getting the license in one of the thousands of other places, they find a rent a mouth Gay couple and a TV crew and head down to taunt their victim, if that is not bullying I don't know what is. Yes she was refusing to do her job, but it's not all on one side, this would not even be on the news if they had just gone elsewhere. When I buy a pack of bacon in Asda, I don't go and find a muslim checkout operator and then shout at him with a TV crew at my back do I? I support this womans right not to go against her beliefs. If she started the job yesterday, there may be some validity here but the law changed while she was in office.

Don't be so naive jim, they wanted to force her to do something against her wishes, fortunately this lady has more bottle in her little finger than all these popinjays put together. She went to jail rather than violate her beliefs.

The couple tried to get a licence several times. She didn't just refuse to issue one she refused to let the other clerks issue them as well.
Was she not bullying her Deputies by instructing them not to issue licences?
How long were the people of Rowan County supposed to simply accept they could not get marriage licences in their home county?
Can't help noticing that the SJW's are great upholders of the law,,,,,,,when it happens to suit their agenda. Now if it was European immigration law, for instance,,,,,
Not too interested in the rights and wrongs of this case but the hypocrisy on view is 'interesting'.
I could, hypothetically, put up videos of homosexuals being hung from cranes in Iran or, good heavens, getting thrown off tall buildings by your favourite brown eyed boys, the Palestinians, with the caption 'Result'. Then when faced with the ensuing howls of protest, say, 'It's the law'.
There's been a great deal of gloating here, notwithstanding a bit of back-tracking, from people who usually like projecting their moral superiority over us mere mortals.
Svejk
I agree. Well said.
Question Author
Really? You think the two can be compared?
Well, it is obvious my one word answer of 'Result' hit the wrong spot rather than me typing a long paragraph.

I could go into the reason I did it,but shan't bore you.

I can firmly assure you I sit amongst the mere mortals on this or any other site I post on.

I wish Kim Davis well in the future and hope she can find a position she can carry out to suit her beliefs.
All of this "if they had gone elsewhere"... they shouldn't have to. It's their right to get married in their local registry office, a right which was taken away from them -- and all residents of Rowan County (and 17 other counties in the US, mostly in Alabama). TTT you are utterly in the wrong on this, I'm sorry to say. And I've been one of those voicing my discomfort at her being jailed, which despite being the right and only decision available to the courts still means this has escalated far beyond what it needed to. Ultimately, though, this is Kim Clark's fault for failing to carry out her job properly. Naive it is not.

With respect to the media attention, and in particular the filming of one of the (many) confrontations, perhaps the hope was that putting the incident on the spotlight would help to provide pressure on the woman into doing her job properly.

And, finally, if you want a real demonstration of bullying, how about you look at all the protesters outside the registry office yesterday, as one of the couples finally got married, calling them "perverts" and brandishing posters such as "Sodomy is Sin". If you want to find your bullies, look no further than the evangelical Christians.

the point is ummmm that the continuing "it's the law" cries from those above are themselves invalid because as svejk correctly points out, the law itself may valid but morally wrong. No doubt under IS it is legal to throw gays off buildings, so would they jail someone for refusing to do so?
I know white man's law is superior to black/brown men's law, ummmm, if that's what you're saying. But that's just an example of the things we're not allowed to say/think by the SJW's. It's a quandary, isn't it?
TTT

Thousands of other places?

Are you suggesting that gay couples should have to drive to another county for their marriage licence?

Once again TTT you're ignoring the fact that there was no where else to get marriage licences in the county. These were people from Rowan County, not from neighbouring counties. She wasn't targeted so yo Asda analogy is false.
TTT

What is morally wrong with the law?

And should a thrice married Christian be the one to dictate morals to others?
'so yo', Sp? Is that the old patois coming out? ;o)
"and, finally, if you want a real demonstration of bullying, how about you look at all the protesters outside the registry office yesterday, as one of the couples finally got married, calling them "perverts" and brandishing posters such as "Sodomy is Sin".
