They're still looking for the rogue who buried Richard III under that car park ...
The Police want to get out of those expensive Police cars, pull their fingers out and stop making excuses.
if they're still investigating them at even-numbered houses, Leicester's doing pretty well

Will the people who live in odd numbered houses get a Council Tax discount?
decent of them to let the burglars know they can have a go at odd numbered houses
it may be a double bluff, aelmpvw, maybe it's really odd-numbered houses they're investigating and this is to lure the burglarious fraternity into their trap.
the burglars will probably play the 'entrapment' card if that is the case :-)

No.

This Government and the last are guilty under funding the Police to such a degree that they can no longer perform a basic function such as investigate crimes.

The Conservatives are the criminals friend.
This was a trial and I understand the police didn't ignore the odd number houses but chose not to do forensics at the scene as the data suggests that the success rate of forensics is extremely low:
"The pilot was prompted by analysis by East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), which covers Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, which found of 1,172 attempted burglaries scenes, few were found to contain any forensic evidence, and only 33 suspects were identified."
// Police budgets will fall by £300 million next year the police minister has confirmed, despite a series of warnings from senior officers.
Mike Penning, the Home Office minister, said the central government police grant will fall to £8.2 billion in 2015-16, down £299 million on the current year, or 4.9 per cent in real terms.
One police and crime commissioner said the cuts could affect the "viability" of some smaller forces. //
I live in an odd numbered house, so if my house gets burgled by the pikeys who have just camped up on the village green does that mean the plod will not go to investigate? Even though my insurance premiums are double that of last year and my rottweiller still has his jaws around the ***'s leg. Tut!
The article's headline uses the word 'ignore' in italics. The police didn't ignore the odd number cases- they just didn't fully investigate them. Forensics don't seem to be a great use of police time- most burglars presumably wear gloves. There is a risk of course that burglars might now realise they can afford to dispense with gloves and do more jobs
is that anything new? I was last burgled in the late 70s and the police did nothing then except say I'd never see any of tit again, which of course was correct. They've essentially been a reporting service for insurance companies for donkeys' years.
I got burgled in the 90's and they sent forensics out. That might be because of the amount of burglaries in the area (26 altogether) before he was caught.
In some areas, 95% of burglaries are unsolved by the Police. With the gross underfunding, they are next to useless.

One factor may be though that burglars are getting more skilled
Or the high chance that they will never be caught, encourages them.
// One factor may be though that burglars are getting more skilled //

In my area they are. They robbed my place and then switched the numbers on the front door from 36 to 63.
I think they should extend the scheme..e.g not bother investigating murders if the victim's name begins with a vowel.
