/// Hopkins' piece was reported to police by Peter Herbert, the Chair Society of Black Lawyers. He earlier claimed it included “some of the most offensive, xenophobic and racist comments I have read in a British newspaper for some years”. ///

Now we all know that very title isn't in the least a teeny bit racist, don't we?

I do and will tell you that.
Blimey....most people would have known Gromit was being sarcastic!

Stewart Lee is as funny as tooth-ache.
DB ,perhaps what you think is suitable for a site with no age restriction is different to the views held by those who operate the site.

I didn't report it,but wasn't surprised it went.

I say I'm English almost every day of my life and I've yet to be thrown in jail. I must be one of the lucky ones
Some removals are unnecessary some aren't. On that we agree.
"However, if you make our highly paid living out of making scattergun contentious observations in national newspapers, then you must accept approbation, ridicule, and where applicable, arrest, as occupational hazards"
Approbration, eh, Andy?
// Notice on this thread how gromit's "off colour" comment is zapped, but his subsequent post complaining about that and repeating the comment isn't. Barking or what. //

According to one prize thicko on AB, I zapped my own posts. Which I didn't.

Revealing to see all the posters defending the maggot Hopkins and her right to have a controversial opinion were quick to jump on my deliberately provocative comments, and remove them. Bunch of hypocrits.
Oh no! Not liberal academics! Good to see AB's tradition of anti-intellectualism is alive and kicking.

Anywayvthis has nothing to do with "infiltration" by the police or any other paranoid right wing fantasy. It's to do with the fact that we have laws against hate speech which are badly written and use a somewhat OTT definition. On the plus side, these same laws are sometimes used to prosecute extremist Muslim clerics - and are a big part of the arsenal used by Theresa May to ban various extremist groups. On the negative side, you could of course make the case that - as for Hopkins - these laws are bad for freedom of speech.

That's a much more interesting and nuanced discussion to have. But no let's spout ignorant nonsense about those nasty "academics" (boo hiss) who have nothing better to do or any higher goal in life than to prosecute gutter press trolls.
I'm guessing you might be more comfortable on another site. Somewhere you can have a much more interesting and nuanced discussion. (with your fellow intellectuals, no doubt)
It must pain you to read ignorami, like what we are, spout ignorant nonsense about, well, everything, I suppose.

Gromit

/// According to one prize thicko on AB, I zapped my own posts. Which I didn't. ///

Frightened to name names Gromit in case you get suspended for breaching Site Rules?

/// Revealing to see all the posters defending the maggot Hopkins and her right to have a controversial opinion were quick to jump on my deliberately provocative comments, and remove them. Bunch of hypocrits. ///

Since we all know that it is only the Ed and his moderators who can remove posts, are you calling the Ed and your fellow moderators hypocrites?
Gromit - // According to one prize thicko on AB, I zapped my own posts. Which I didn't. //

Maybe you could have a think about your use of language, which may well contribute to the deletion of posts.

//Revealing to see all the posters defending the maggot Hopkins and her right to have a controversial opinion were quick to jump on my deliberately provocative comments, and remove them. Bunch of hypocrits. //

Personally, although I do defend Ms. Hopkins' right to have a controversial opinion, I do not defend her unpleasant expression of it in a national newspaper.

I would not label myself as a hypocrite in this instance.

Are you in fact owning up to removing Gromit's posts?

In line with AB policy, I am unwilling to get into a discussion about posts.

I am sure you will understand.
