Every year, he takes part in the Pride Parade ... on his mobility scooter !!

He carries a banner saying " I'm the oldest gay in the village".

In the past, he has been given a criminal conviction for being gay. This weekend, he married his BF, to coincide with Pride Weekend.

That's the way to go when you're in your 90s!

It's more of a celebration, than a demonstration.

And are you really suggesting that the Brighton Pride march should detour a hundred miles to march through Tower Hamlets?

Why?

It would be exhausting.

There is a white pride movement, they marched in Manchester not so long back with the National Front.

I understand that they even had a little party with a disco and a buffet.

Was not as well supported as the pride event mind.

Certainly - your statistics refer to each gender individually, not the heterosexual population as a whole.

If it were a reference to population, that would indeed be 50% of each - making your maths correct.

But your stats refer to the hetereosexual male population - 100% of them, and the heterosexual female population - 100% of them, so on that basis, my maths is sound.

The point I am making is that we all agree that to be gay is no longer a crime.
Some,however,still find the practice abhorrent and unnatural.
To be a paedophile is not a crime as NCCL and certain MP's who endorsed P.I.E. will testify.
I have read earlier that what people do in the privacy of their own home is nobody's business but their own so would you all be happy if paedophiles had a parade to tell all about their sexual preferences.? No abhorrence shown here perhaps?

The concept is based on being a minority.

If you are white, or heterosexual, or democractic, you are not in a minority, so you don't feel the need to stake your claim.

Being a paedophile illegal, being gay is not - honestly, I know some of this thread act like it should be, but it's not!!

And as you full well know, with your extreme example - paedophilia causes a universal reaction of horror, disgust and anger, so it's hardly likely to fly is it?

vetuste_ennemi - Gay Pride marches are no longer 'demonstrations' they are more akin to carnival parades. They have never taken contentious routes...they just have a Starting Point and a route to 'somewhere' where there is a park, etc. for the main Party.
There would be no need to go through any 'No Go' areas (not my choice of words but a descriptor based on other comments) as that is not the purpose of the march.

A fundamental aspect of being to live as a gay man in our society AOG, is a rounded, robust and highly developed sense of humour. You being resolutely heterosexual may be a little lacking in this area? Especially if you are picking up for what was obviously a humourous point.
