I know George Galloway is wowing them in the US of A. I have to say I  thought his senate address was OK.

His nickname is Gorgeous George and he is definitely not the first to have this nickname - my mother used to call her Roman Catholic priest Gorgeous George - but obviously not to his face

Does anyone know which radio character was called this and in which program, ITMA or educating edward.

Did he have the catch phrase - I thank you......

There used to be a wrestler called Gorgeous George...and I'm sure it was Arthur Askey who had the catch phrase'I thank you'.
Also I have never heard of Educating Edward ...only Educating Archie.
There was of course ..Jimmy Edwards..in Whacko!!

thank you Shaney you're a star - I did conflate two or three people. I plead age - old age !

Any info on Educating Archie ?

My parents also had a nick name for someone else - Educated Edward - which I think was based on Archie....

and once you'd said it, I recollected Arthur my little brown jug Askey saying I thank you.....

oh, the Fifties - a lost and forgotten decade only to some !

Rather than being a wrestler himself, wasn't Gorgeous George  Kendo Nagasaki's manager?
Woofgang's site is complimentary about Brough, but my recollection of him on television is that he couldn't speak without moving his mouth.  That was how he had survived on radio.
