Very well thought out Sandy, just like the sell out of the P.O. Arm, Police, Navy, our Country's defence.
There is not a cat in hell’s chance of any nurses being evicted from the UK. This story is the usual scaremongering tactics adopted by those interested in discrediting the government (whatever colour the current one might be).

Having said that, this tale highlights the ludicrous mess that successive governments have got themselves into over immigration and the free movement of people within the EU. So we see the ridiculous situation described here where a trained nurse faces (if we are to believe the hype) being kicked out because he or she earns only £34,999 and hails from outside the EEA. Meantime all manner of vagrants and undesirables can roam freely into the UK from places such as Romania and Bulgaria, kip on a sheet of cardboard in Park Lane (obviously more comfortable than the place they came from) and they have the “right” to remain here.

For whatever reason the UK has decided that it will not provide the education and training for large numbers of people to be able to do skilled work. Instead it trawls the world poaching workers from countries who have paid to train them. Only young people lucky enough to receive a decent education (which is mainly the 7% educated outside the State system) will secure decent jobs. With that in mind there is no way that 30,000 (or even 30) nurses whom the Health Trusts have scoured the world to recruit will be kicked out.
So what is your answer to the main question about NHS nurses then NJ ?

If its true that successive Governments have not trained enough British people as Nurses, ( which can both agree on ) then we have to rely on these ones that are in danger of being sent back home.

So what is your answer, in the two years left that we have until this ruling comes in ? If we start to send these people home, who will staff our Hospitals ?

And its nothing to do with Bulgarians sleeping on cardboard, unless any of them are fully qualified Nurses.
what is your problem mikey ?

thats now NJ also telling you nobody is going to get booted out, so the problem of recruiting to replace is irelavant.

NOBODY IS GOING TO GET KICKED OUT..more chance of labour getting into power...oh hold on
“…then we have to rely on these ones that are in danger of being sent back home.”

Line one of my earlier answer, Mikey - There is not a cat in hell’s chance of any nurses being evicted from the UK.

The reason I raised the matter of Bulgarians kipping in the street is because, according to this story, a trained nurse earning less than £35k but from outside Europe will be thrown out whereas those sleeping in the street but from inside Europe are allowed to stay. Do you really think that will happen? (Well, the second part most certainly will).

It is symptomatic of the utter mess that has been created by free movement of “labour” rules which come with EU membership. If it were only nurses and the like coming to the UK most people would be perfectly happy (bearing in mind we have relinquished the responsibility to train our own). But it’s not. We have to have imported vagrancy as well and to cure the problem of excessive migration the government is considering deporting nurses whilst retaining vagrants. If you really believe that will happen....
Well,I am glad that the right-wingers on here think that Nurses will not be kicked out. But it clear from the BBC link that there plans to do exactly that::

"A new pay threshold for migrants means non-European workers will have to leave the UK after six years if they are not earning at least £35,000"

The Home Office said ::::: "the rules would help reduce demand for migrant labour"

So we will wait and see whether this Government will do a u-turn and change these new regulations. I hope that they will do, although dave is still sticking to his original plans at the moment. Just in case I miss it, can I rely on people to post the u-turn, when it arrives ?
A new migrant pay threshold means non-European workers will have to leave the UK after six years if they are not earning at least £35,000.

So the more expensive ones can stay?
Edmund....another thing that the Tories haven't thought through perhaps !
When I read answers from many of the Regulars regards the way each & every Government comes out with absolute C-------r-----a-----------p Policy's/ Idea's whether be it the NHS / Immigration / dealing with the way it speaks up at Brussels & demanding a better deal for the UK, I'm sure many of these readers / posters could run this Country better! only an observation you understand.
TWR...you have left out too any letters for me to be sure exactly what you are saying, but I probably agree with you....I think !

Presumably they are more valuable. They cost the employer more, yes- but because they earn more they pay more income tax and VAT tax claim less/no benefits.
I don't think we will ever throw out more than a few hundred a year, whether they earn £34000pa or cost us thousand in benefits
I've been doing a bit more digging and all (unsurpisingly) is not what it seems.

Apparently, along with this plan, there is a list of occupations which are deemed to be short of numbers or skills and these are exempt from this proposal. An "independent panel" (the Migration Advisory Committee) decides which occupations make this list. "At the moment" nursing is not on the list. Watch this space to see the MAC l decide that it should be. And then no nurses will be kicked out.
