Hi
I hope someone can help me here.
We were recently burgled whilst we were out, so there was a forced entry.
All that was taken was jewellery and cash. My question is this. I know a lot is down by claims assessment companies these days & they usually try & replace items for you, rather than give you the cash. The jewellery as far as we are concerned mostly cannot be directly replaced as they are family heirlooms, presents and items we bought on holiday, but will they still insist on trying to replace items for us or give us the cash so we can try & replace some of the items ourselves? Also more than £500 in cash was taken which were tins where pound coins were being saved, or coppers. (I know I won't get more than £500 in cash back as that is the limit in the policy) They have asked for proof of the cash, but how can I prove they took a tin with say £200 in £1 coins?
Any ideas, experiences, thoughts would be most welcome.
How replacement of jewellery and so on is handled will depend on what your policy says. You might ask them what they would consider as acceptable proof for the saved coins.
Just thought others might be interested to know that the insurance company finally accepted my claim about the how we had so much cash in the house without needing to prove it. Took a while & several phone calls before they eventually accepted it thought.
