This is what happened yesterday – a day after the result of the election was announced.

//From the photos, many of them look young, and hopefully they will grow out of it. //

as a colleague of mine once said to his left-leaning student son:-
"better start the revolution now, while you still know it all".
Deiseldick,
Except not enough voted UKIP. Their vote was down on the 2014 Euro Elections. Their number of seats halved. Their leader didn't get elected. They are probably finished as a credible party.
a bunch of bored students out for a wee demonstration :(
sandy: //Could someone remind me, who cut police numbers by some 17000?//

The only thing which was cut by the government was the overall police budget along with the many other public sector cuts necessary to get rid of the fiscal mess inherited from Labour.
The reduction of police numbers was done by the police themselves, but they could have made other savings instead; such as altering the generous pensions and early retirements based on 'post-traumatic stress' etc.

This morning you seem to have not only naomi's wooden spoon, but a wooden knife and fork too :0)

If it was left to the rebellious Left they'd like to see police numbers at zero.

Once again we see the true face of the 'Nasty Left', but fortunately they can't blame their aggressive actions on the usual scapegoats the Far-Right this time.

and to scrawl "F*** Tory scum" on the Woman's War Memorial especially on the VE Day celebration weekend is a little short of treason and the perpetrators when caught should be throw in jail for six months along with those who were arrested yesterday.

Very much serious than that I'm afraid, this was an attack on democracy.
"Does The Left Want An End To Democracy?" - probably, mostly they cannot grasp that everyone does not hold their warped views and as such they find it very difficult to understand why they lost. So if we could do away with elections etc then the state can make the "correct" decisions for the people who are to dim to know what is best for them.
Given how everyone seems to be lumping these morons in with everyone else on "the left", it's easy to imagine being a shy leftie too...

Obviously people on the extremes of politics are loud, obnoxious and rude. You see it from both sides. People in roughly the middle ground (ie most peole) get lumped in with the extremes of whichever side of the centre they just about lean towards. Hence the phenomenon of "shy toryism" -- although this was already accounted for in the polls, apparently, so there is more to the result than just that.

Seriously. I am in no way going to condone the actions of these protesters. They are a disgusting response. But like any other group of violent thugs they are not representative of the majority. We should cut out this sensationalist "the left must want an end to democracy" bull.

Jim, //"the left must want an end to democracy"//

That's not what I said.
Yes I suppose you asked it as a question really but others have been implying the answer is yes. I feel it's something of an unfair question, and implies that there is at least a possibility that this is representative of a majority of "the Left". It is not. We do want democracy. So the answer to your question is "no".
A demonstrative case of 'spare the rod......'
Should the voice of protest be truncheoned off the streets?
If they broke your arm as they did to a policeman, would you just shrug off the injury?
Blair Peach and Ian Tomlinson come to mind.
Hence, protestors know the police handicaps. Peaceful protest, it was not!
Question Author
jim, why is it an unfair question? Whether you agree with them or not, the left have, in general, displayed nothing but spite and sour grapes over the result of this election and the people actively protesting there are very clearly reluctant to accept that result or to wait until the Government is properly formed before screaming for it to be kicked out.

sandyRoe, are you defending these idiots?
No. I'm simply reminding myself of a couple of people who were subjected to too vigorous policing.
Question Author
That has no bearing on this thread.
^merely *** stirring, lol.
