Seems like a backward step to me, especially as bars and clubs already have 'properly ventilated smoking areas' (it's called 'outside').

What are your thoughts?

No.

The smoking areas in the pubs I go to are really nice. Shelters, heaters, nice plants etc. No need to bring it back inside.
It is a vote winner - lots of people think that banning smoking infringes freedoms / is the nanny state / kills off pubs, etc. blah blah.

The truth is, smoking has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

It is the only legally available commodity which, if used for its intended purpose, will quite possibly kill you.

It is a filthy habit - infecting the smoker and everyone around with the rank odour of stale smoke.

So although it is a vote winner, I would certainly not support a repeal in the law.
No, I don't think it is a vote winner.
No, giant leap backwards for mankind. Smokers had it their way for centuries they could have been less selfish but they chose not to be. In the end civilised society put their house in order for them. Any change going back to any sort of smoking in pubs etc would be a serious retrograde step.
No
If he doesn't understand that smoking kills other people apart from the smoker and eating a doughnut doesn't, than he shouldn't be running a pub let alone a country.

No way, the boy's a fool!
what do you think SP, are you a smoker?
No,no,no !

Smoking will never be allowed again in public places. Nobody, apart from Farage, is even talking about rescinding the legislation. And Farage is not going to win the next Election, so this is just a dead duck from the start !

If anyone wants yet another reason not to vote UKIP, then they need look no further than this.
No of course not. It's taken ages to get folk to respect others around them regarding this practice, why would we opt to throw that away ?
No, and furthermore I'd ban the drinking of alcohol and the eating of anything other than fresh salad too.
That'll teach them.

Nanny knows best. Ventilation specialists are imps of satan.
Is it in The UKIP Manifesto? If so I think it's a big mistake. Wouldn't affect me, I gave going into pubs a long time ago. Got fed up of coughing and stinging eyes.
This is one of the problems with not living in a democracy where one can vote on the issues; but are forced to elect a set of elites who "offer" a whole package of 'take it or leave it' aims.
Andy....only about 23% of adults now continue to smoke in Britain, so I can't see that this could possibly be a popular vote winner. The pro-smoking lobby has lost this argument and it isn't going to come back. Ever.
Gets my vote.
//Seems like a backward step to me, especially as bars and clubs already have 'properly ventilated smoking areas' (it's called 'outside').//

Outside where it gets in the lungs of passers-by? We had rooms opening to the footpath in a couple of pubs. It reeked and the footpath was littered with hundreds of butts.

Smokers played games of who could "flick it to the gutter".

Smoking areas should be sealed, operate at reduced pressure and have carbon filters on the exhaust to absorb the cocktail of poisons emitted by tobacco combustion.

Smokers are such terrible litterers they should have to return the butts of every cigarette they smoke to be entitled to replacements.

///Smokers are such terrible litterers they should have to return the butts of every cigarette they smoke to be entitled to replacements///

Now there's a Vote Winner!
Willkommen und Sieg Heil, Beso!
In my lifetime, smoking has gone from being an activity which Doctors were paid to advertise a brand of cigarettes, to a situation where the activity is completely disapproved of.

On that journey, I saw the paid representatives of the tobacco industry
( Forest ) appearing on TV, desperately trying to make us believe that there was no link between smoking and poor health.

Trains had non-smoking coaches, that forced people to walk through smoking coaches to get to ! Pubs and restaurants where everybody was forced to eat surrounded by a thick fog of tobacco smoke and overflowing ashtrays.

Those days are never going to come back, not just because its only Farage that wants them to.
I'd be very surprised if obesity does kill more people than smoking, as Nige claims. He should give us the figures for a claim like this.
