/// The Government will introduce a new law with the power to jail those inciting binge-drinking for up to a year and fine them up to €15,000 (£12,000). ///
Perhaps that's not such a bad idea, perhaps we should do the same in Britain?
One sign of immaturity is the inability to hold one's hand up and take responsibility.
Binge drinking is a vague term. Once having meaning, it's now applied to anyone who drinks more on a Saturday night than on other days/nights. Who entices binge drinking anyway ? Except maybe others who are intoxicated having already started. Going to fill the gaols up with them ? Any how are you going to get £15k from someone on benefits ?
It's interesting that in the two photos with alcohol in them there are shots glasses. In my opinion, shots are a fairly recent phenomenon in Britain. Growing up I used to see kids drinking them in American films about Frat parties but they were never in the pubs/clubs in this country...
/// I have no idea what that means? Or what it has to do with what the French Health Minister said. This isn't a race issue. ///
It certainly is considering it is the Anglo-Saxon race that is being accused, or doesn't the race thing work if the race happens to posses a pale skin?
It is those inciting binge-drinking ie Pub landlords, Club owners etc, that are libel for prosecution, not your 'benefit' receivers.
Regardless of that taking into account the high prices charged in these establishment, I wouldn't think that the often accused benefit receiver can afford those high prices.
I don't know where you get the idea that anyone is saying it's 'Brtain's fault'.
From the story:
"Audacious François Bourdillonchief of French state health watchdog the National Institute of Prevention and Health Education said: “It is really an Anglo-Saxon phenomenon that’s beginning to slip in to the generation from the 15-24-year-olds.”
He is (correctly) identify a particular trait amongst young Britons, which young French people have adopted.
He has not blamed Brtain, he's merely pointed out a cultural phenomenon that we all know about.
This story is what is known as 'click bait'. The headline is inaccurate, as others have pointed out.
If this French minister has said, "Young French people have been encouraged to drink to excess by British exchange students, living in France", then the headline would be valid.
“It is really an Anglo-Saxon phenomenon that’s beginning to slip in to the generation from the 15-24-year-olds.” //
Ah yes, the Anglo-Saxons, woe betide he or any one else for that matter who dares to criticise non whites
Well, let's be honest here - in the UK Muslims, Chinese, Indians and black people simply don't do the binge drinking thing.
It's young white people.
Nothing wrong in that. As long as people stay safe, there's absolutely nothing wrong wth a binge now and then.
But we should not shy away from the fact that binge drinking simply isn't a cultural phenomenom that has swept the ethnic minority population of the UK.
It's not a criticism of white people - more an observation.
Would you agree there's a certain amount of truth in that?
I mean, I think we can agree that young Muslims don't binge drink...?
Gromit is quite correct, no new laws are required in this country. It is already an offence (and has been as long as I can remember) to serve alcohol to somebody who is drunk. However, most of the pubs I have been in have been guilty of this at some time or another. All that's needed is proper application of the existing laws (the penalty for which includes withdrawal or premises and/or personal licences).
"Back in my day" Pubs closed at 10.30 with only a handful of clubs allowed to have late licenses. We certainly didn't see young people spewing up in the gutter or, police being tied up in the early hours with drunken brawls.
We went home.
Do purveyors of alcohol incite binge drinking ? In my experience they merely sell the drinker what they request. Now 18/30 reps, and their excursion leaders I could understand.
