You are not interpreting my comments very well, andy. I KNOW Clarkson commented to his line, the question is how did Lucy Manning as a Beeb hack get hold of the story. That is where the error was made - otherwise, this could have been handled in so much a better way.

Not discounting the smears about Clarkson being the same as Savile that have been made - that's disgusting and I hope he takes the Beeb for a good chunk of cash.

Why do a lot of people in society today NOT ostracise those who foul up and do the wrong things which normally would and should be condemned? It seems anything goes, it's just that celebrity 'thing'....it's okay to do anything as long as you like that person and don't consider their shortcomings wrong. It needs to revert back to the old days when people WERE ostracised for not conforming to the rules of decent society, shame that all has gone out of the window, even physical assault is accepted against another person just because that person is a 'celebrity'. Bad IMO but I have morals!

Ok - understood.

My response would be that it is impossible to keep something like this secret.

Any number of witnesses could have talked to just about anyone, and straight away, because of Clarkson's profile, and he penchant for getting into bother, it's a news story.

I agree, if it had been kept under wraps, the outcome may have been different, but that's the penalty for employing, and indeed being, a high-profile presenter.

Can't argue with anything you have said there, but let's face it, when a Labour government minister punches a member of the public in the street and there is not only no sanction, there is a response of 'Oh, that's just good old John reinforcing his working class roots...', then you know that society's attitudes are underlined by the media and the government, so it's open season for anyone newsworthy to behave like a lout and get away with it.

Not sure - are the last episodes completed, but just not broadcast here yet?

If the series is complete, then it can be sold as normal - if not, then I am sure they can sort something out to get two episodes together - maybe use un-broadcast bits?

How about 'The bits where the three of them were complete twonks and behaved like the cast of Last Of The Summer Wine'?

I should think they could get another fifteen episodes out of those bits!!!!!!

I can't sy that I dislike Jeremy Clarkson, because I don't know him however, I dislike his arrogance and his style of broadcasting, I could well be persuaded to watch Top Gear again with new presenter/s.

If Clarkson can prove that he didn't hit his producer and the producer lied under oath, then maybe, but I think the comparison is shaky at best!

I'm glad the BBC have done the right thing. He crossed the line by assaulting a fellow worker and submitting him to prolonged verbal abuse. I hope he gets no more work he's a jumped up talent less big head, who thought he was above the law . Wrong!!!

I don't think the BBC are in the business of sacking employees because they can't overturn the dining times in the hotel its staff are staying in.

It is not 'negligent' to be unable to provide facilities as desired - unfortunate maybe, but in no way could it be described as negligent.

But say, for the sake of argument, the BBC had sacked the producer, would you agree with that procedure?

One J. Ross was public enemy number one for a while causing outrage among the serially offendable and is currently back at BBC Radio 2 filling in for Steve Wright to say nothing of guest appearances and his own chat show.
One could be forgiven for thinking that this might just blow over in a while and normal sevice could resume.
