It was a pledge that every paper of whatever allegiance picked up on. Pretending it was never made is incredible. Here's another reference to it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2851521/Cameron-s-pledge-cut-net-migration-lies-tatters-figure-soars-260-000.html...

I'll bet Bouncer33 agrees with you!
I hope he does it.

WE All hope he does it naomi, but I bet he will not.
I did not see the show, but wonder if Andrew Marr asked him "and how do you expect to enforce that Mr Cameron"?
they won't even deport the illegal, sorry IRREGULAR, migrants, even when they know who - and where - they are.

they will never make anyone leave after 6 months.
He also said Pensioners are £800 a year better off, on my Planet they are not.
gawd help us, the brains trust is back! where have you been farriercm, I have missed your highly intellegent commentary!
A repeat of 5 years ago.

Cameronaking election promises on immigration that he knows he cannot keep. When he misses the target (which he inevitably will) it will be someone else's fault.

Unfortunately the public have a habit of believing stuff they want to hear.
I have missed your highly intellegent commentary!

O' dear.......
with any luck, it won't be his fault because in less than 6 months he'll be consigned to backbencher-dom
Gromit, this is the second time I’ve told you you’re disingenuous on this issue. Five years ago the flood gates from Eastern Europe hadn’t been opened rendering it impossible for Cameron to meet his original targets on immigration. He’s damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t.
"Cameronaking" - is that a new word Gromit?

Cameronaking, or thatchernackering????
"with any luck, it won't be his fault because in less than 6 months he'll be consigned to backbencher-dom "

and then youll have labour wrecking the country as they always do...
Even before the "floodgates from Eastern Europe" were opened it was impossible for Cameron to keep his promise on immigration. This is not his fault and I don't blame him, or the government, for missing the target. Any other government would have missed that target. The mistake is in making the promise in the first place. Of this all politicians are guilty to some extent -- eg the LibDems on tuition fees, where even keeping their promise (as some did) would have had no effect on the policy anyway.

Far too many politicians make promises they can't keep, or perhaps don't even intend to, and this has to stop.
Cameron didn't just "have targets" five years ago, he made the electorate a specific promise and he surely knew Eastern European nations would have access to the UK when he did so.
Here's an extract from the relevant speech...

“And I believe that will mean net migration to this country will be in the order of tens of thousands each year, not the hundreds of thousands every year that we have seen over the last decade. “
No ifs. No buts.
That's a promise we made to the British people. And it's a promise we are keeping."

He's keeping his promise...yeah, right!

There is no promise in that extract?
What about the bit where he says "that [as in, all I have just been talking about] is a promise we have made to the British people?" Is that a promise?
Looks as if two or three paragraphs have been carved up to produce the link which then doesn't read so well, but as it's only a Leftie rant it doesn't really matter that much.
Here it is again in that famous leftie rag, the Daily Mail:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/election/article-1265612/General-election-2010-David-Cameron-unveils-Tory-manifesto.html

The Coalition Document just speaks of a limit on "non-EU economic migrants" without setting a numerical target, but before the election Cameron was clear.
