I am far from being a Russell Brand fan. He is a terrible scruffbag and I wish he do would his shirt up, get a hair cut and have a shave. But he described Farage last night, on Question Time, as a "Pound Shop Enoch Powell"

Short, sharp and to the point ....Well done Russell !

My criticism of Farage is nothing to do with him being right wing. There's nothing wrong with that per se. I don't even have a problem with him believing that the country is overcrowded etc or that the EU is not good for Britain. I happen to disagree strongly but that is beside the point. The problem with him for me is that he expresses his views in divisive and...

//More electricity required for more people. We can hardly generate enough now for the needs of our crowded little Island.//

That's why we already get it from France at peak times.
//You'd think a major country like us would be able to pay our nurses a decent wage to encourage more of our home grown talent (of whatever hue) into the profession. //

it's not entirely about money. years ago, my son would have enrolled to become a nurse, and would have done his training and would now be plying his trade in a midlands hospital. instead because he's never been academic that's never going to happen. you don't need a degree level education to be caring and good with people who are often very apprehensive about their poor health.
Thank you Zacs-Master and probably at highly inflated tariffs as well.
/Paris is also a "world city". there, however, if you are unable to conduct business in the official state language (French), that would be your problem./

in the context we are debating it might also be the problem of the medical staff treating a patient who is bleeding to death in front of them but they can't communicate with.

if the French don't care about that - well - why should we select the French to be our role models?

Read my link at 1314. You endorse what I had written there precisely.
If someone is bleeding to death in front of you and you are a medico then I suggest you do not have to be multi lingual to treat the cause do you? Many RTA victims are unconscious and can't communicate their problems to A&E when they come in but are still patched up.
Nurses should not need to be academic. If shows a shift away from what the role of a nurse is for it to be so I think it may be part of the problem. One needs care from a nurse, not diagnosis and suchlike.

fair enough retro - poor choice of example on my part

someone lapsing in and out of consciousness?
someone screaming in agony with no apparent injuries?

Empty vessels make the most noise!!! I wish Brand would have the guts to stand for election. He said he was "scared he would become like them" says a lot doesn't it?
Plank, On his own personal agenda.
Dimbleby was very weak as a chairman this episode it was shambolic,as for brand name calling was a comical moment but he shut up and seemed very sheepish for the other topics, not QTs greatest show.
He probably had the director in his ear yelling 'this is making good TV, don't interject'.
Question Author
It turns out that the man in the audience that called upon Brand to stand for election, is the brother of a UKIP MEP.

Well, well, well...............curiouser and curiouser !

Nobody has yet mentioned the huge cheer that went in the audience when Brand called Farage a "pound shop Enoch Powell"
Well what is so curious mikey. If that moronic, whining, untalented ,rude slob was giving Farage some stick and Farage took it with gentlemanly aplomb then why shouldn't a UKIP supporter challenge Brand to stand for Parliament and put the world to rights the loony way. No doubt the raving banshee in the back was Brand's sister. So what? I noticed the scornful derision from the audience when he feebly replied "I would be too scared to stand"The answer to that is "Put up or shut up" isn't it?
I don't think he said he'd be too scared to stand. I'm pretty sure he said he was frightened of becoming 'one of them'.
That thing was Bunny La Roche of the Socialist Workers Party, retro. They have a web-site advising how to get on and disrupt the programme.
That doesn't surprise me Svejk. That gutter trash would'nt have the intellect to coin the phrase "Pound shop Enoch Powell" by himself. He was probably briefed by the SWP before going on air to quote his SWP anti-capitalist mantra. He accuses Farage of being one of the rich city guys to which Farage replied, "I am not the richest person on this panel" No young gutter trash has several million pounds apparently. Not bad for a anti -capitalist Loony is it? I expect he doesn't pay the full tax on his questionable income either. Following the champagne socialist trail!!! "Yes I've got a few bob", he admits in his whiney pseudo mockney, one of the lads voice. "I've had a few lucky breaks". It is about time he recieved a few unlucky breaks. That moronic piece of human detrius isn't in the same league as Enoch Powell and unfit to shine his boots.
