Why is it that if you don't condone the actions of these women you are presumed to be anti Breastfeeding? I am a great supporter of breastfeeding, have fed all four of my children but don't agree with the original woman who kicked up a fuss in Claridges, nor do I agree with the silly demonstration this woman's supporters thought necessary. Its for publicity but...

So if a grown man was suckling a womans breast in the restaurant would that be ok as long as the breast could not be seen?

/// You're on, 2sp! I know a mum in London giving birth in the new year...I'll get her to bring the boobs...you bring the bottle....whoohoo!!!! ///

She won't by any chance choose to give birth in the tea rooms of Claridges by any chance will she, and then go to the papers if they object?

I really don't think you can compare breastfeeding to giving birth in public.

Dearie me...
Divebuddy ^^^...LOL
Lived in Canada....traveled lots in Canada....gave birth to a Canadian...and breast fed my way around Canada...
Ice skated with and breast fed at the home of the Head of Immigration...and a few others....
Helped Ralph Klein when he was the Mayor of Calgary with his pot hole patrol......he was a dish...
They visited us....I fed....they changed nappies and put her to bed while I cooked....Canadians are not up themselves.....☺
I remember an 'earth mother' lobbing one out and attaching a snotty nosed child to it in the fish shop queue...put me right of my cod.
Well, AOG...I was going to wait until she had given birth and was breast feeding....but you've given me an idea.....now how can I time this???...☺

It was in jest, lighten up for goodness sake.

Dearie me...
AOG, apologies for missing your humour.

Mind you...Stuey may be an exception...... ;-)
The main argument here appears to be "I don't like it, and people are obliged to respect my feelings."

Not terribly persuasive, really.
anotheoldgitthanks for reading my post even though it was on the long side but I just had to get it off my chest. (No pun intended!) In a way you have sort of explained it and I'm pleased to hear you wouldn't have a problem with a mother breastfeeding her baby in your presence although not at the dinner table which I'm sure wouldn't happen as I'm sure you would have a very comfy chair or sofa for the mother to sit on. Unfortunately a mother cannot do this in a public place as the facility wouldn't be there and as I said in my previous post, no-one should be asked to eat in a toilet area. So although many are saying they don't like this happening or they wouldn't do it themselves, they still haven't explained why.
He's going for the lactating thing - see you in the Claridges bar, though I must add that I far prefer the Connaught's bar and then there's Hélène Darozze there with her 2* restaurant.
'Scuse, AOG....Barsel....your thread on driving???
mass demonstration........................ 40 women. LOL.
AOG...//
Don't you realise that those shots of the mother feeding were posed shots she had took herself, they were not Paparazzi shots taken at the time of the incident, just like the amount of breast showing and the size of the offered coving they were all posed to get her message over?//

Err....no I hadn't...and I still don't. I had the impression from the first DM article that that was a photo taken by fellow diners...and *not* staged. So,are you saying that she went back just to look discreet and get all those 'mingers'(horrible, horrible description) on her side?

Sqad and divebuddy should hang their heads in shame. Is it really required that you judge the appearance of women whose opinions you disagree with?
Some never grow up

40 lactating women, anne - ultra-dangerous and from which AOG, sqad and divebuddy should run a mile if they have an ounce of intelligence between them.

Or maybe they don't...
