Handsome is as handsome does as far as I am concerned. It was all to do with having too much to drink at lunch apparently. Well...we have all been there !

It's strange that anybody can say or do anything they like, act like buffoons, be as rude as you like and then it's all ok afterwards because he/she apologises.

I wouldn't agree that its "all OK" but we should recognise that he has apologised, and move on. As the Christian god once said..."let him who is without sin, cast the first stone"
Oh Mikey I'm a totally sin-free zone !
He only apologised because much was made of it !
Mikey,

Yes, but did you take to BBC Radio Wales airwaves to do your apologising? ;-)
It's all he can do, janbee. He was obviously out of order and accepts that so he's apologised. Even 65 year old former politicians behave inappropriately sometimes especially when they are a little "tired and emotional". Mr Mellor realises that.

By contrast the odious Andrew Mitchell, who it seems had form for talking down to police officers and security guards, maintains his pompous righteousness all the way to the High Court and ends up losing his reputation (such that it was) and the thick end of two million smackeroonies.
drunk man swears in black cab.................... tut tut tut .
At least he had the sense not to drive himself.

He obviously saw red... wine.
So if I murder or rape someone after a few too many drinks at lunch, it's OK as long as I apologise when I've sobered up. Magnificent.
Please don't be ridiculous, canary.
Canary, it's better than nothing.

Strikes me as 'damned if you do and damned if you don't' on here.....

Canary...I am with NJ here...that is just a silly remark to make.
Sorry
Do you think David Mellor would have apologised if he hadn't been recorded? He's apologising because he's been found out not because he's genuinely sorry.
Question Author
Thanks Canary...now we can move on ! :-)
He apologises to everyone apart from the actual cabbie who he had the row with.
Could have made a good colour remake of 'Carry on Cabby' or should that be crabby.
He'll carry on regardless!
He, apparently donated money to the cabby's charity, jom, which would suggest he's been in contact with him.
He's promised to make a substantial donation to the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association’s Christmas charity appeal "for all the decent London cabbies he's met over the many, many years "he's used taxis.
