So basically a young white female in a town where there as been a sustained period of sexual abuse on young white females, should run the risk of rape for fear of being branded a racist?

How very patronising of you Andy.

/// So, since then I have chosen to avoid Pakistani taxi drivers on the few occasions I have used taxis. Makes sense to me. ///

Has I have said previously, "err on the side of caution", always a sensible move for anyone sensible..

I don;t think so.

I don't think sp will either - he will understand my comment in the spirit in which it was meant.

Let's see what he has to say shall we?

If sp is offended, i am perectly happy to apologise - if he read my coment as I meant it, I'll leave it up to you to do the right thing.
SP may look slightly daft unless he changes 'zero chance' to, let's say 'a negligible chance'
AOG

You asked:

"That may well be, but as a Black man would you feel safe walking in a rough white area"

No, I should reiterate, it's not the race of the locals which would determine whether I would feel safe or not - the overriding consideration would be whether it was a rough area or not.

Incidentally, it isn't patronising to refer to someone as 'bright'.

What would be patronising, would be the expression of surprise that someone IS bright, eg.

"Well done sp1814, that's a good point. I didn't think you were that bright".

Not my analogy.

But I still like it - because there is zero chance of you getting killed by a shark in the Artic, same way there's zero chance of you being mauled by a polar bear in the Amazon.

I was going to do 'my usual' and say "You can't trust anything in the Daily Mail", but on this occasion, you have so successfully slapped me down that I shall humbly admit that you have won the point.

Ric.roar - "Strange thing is - no matter where I go most of the taxi drivers I see are asian
I wonder if this is true and, if so, why ..."

i think it is true, and an educated guess suggsts that a lot of Asian businesses will emloy family members, which in the case of extnded families, can be a large number of people.

Therefore, if an Asian proprieter buys a taxi business, he or she can probably staff it entirely with relatives, or friends - hence the large propensity for Asian drivers in most major towns and cities.

I stress this is entirely an educated guess, I am of course open to contrary evidence.

You appear to be accusing them of nepotism? Or do white taxi firms operate in a similar manner?

Are there statiristics for what job types take people off jobseekers i.e. hiw many successfully get into taxi driving, other than being related to an owner?

They like jobs that are paid in cash. Taxi drivers, takeaways, market traders.

You appear to be accusing them of being tax-shy? I thought you were a left-of-centre, sympathetic type, until I saw that.

This company is providing a service that the paying public clearly wants. The activities of some Pakistani men in Rochdale have rendered the place infamous so it’s understandable that some girls are wary. Sad for those men who weren’t involved in the scandals, but the paying passengers’ peace of mind when getting into a car with a stranger outweighs any other consideration, and if anyone else considers that to be racist, it’s tough really.
Agree Naomi and why does this always have to be about Race. Anyone is capable of horrendous things whatever, colour, creed or persuasion they are.
That's true, but I would have thought the reason it's a race issue in Rochdale is obvious to all.

I've never seen an Asian taxi driver in my area. All ours are white..... and fat!

Sorry if that's "weightist", but it is a fact.
...and most of the taxi drivers where I live are Arsenal supporters.

And don't they bloody well like to make sure you know it.

It could be worse, horseshoes ........they could be Welsh!
I don't get it. Despite the back-slapping from the 'bright' SP, Andy's analogy makes no sense to me.
AOG offered 1 safe/1 dangerous option.
Andy's so called analogy doesn't have a safe option.
I didn't go to school much. Could someone explain it to me?
Have you clicked on my link @ 17:25 svejk?
I have but it doesn't seem to have any relevance to what I'm saying.
Andy offered a choice between the warm, shark infested, Atlantic(lol) and freezing to death in the Arctic. In other words, no choice.
AOG offered a dangerous/safe option.
I'm just saying that it was also factually wrong.
Ha ha Talbot, they're that too.
