Just found this today. What I find amazing is that all the passers-by just stood and watched while this horrible woman committed this serious assault.

\\\\Its a sad state of affairs when someone can be attacked in broad daylight and everybody just stands around idle.\\\ True mikey, but that is the state of society today...........much improved on a generation ago, so I am led to believe.

I can't see what anyone could have done to help. The attacker was quite vicious, and you'd need a big man to try to overcome her. At least the bystanders did hang around, and probably helped the victim afterwards.
well my mum reported women fighting in the street in the forties

and one of her teachers Caroline Grey famous surgeon was waiting for her RR outside the Royal Free when she was jogged by another woman who said:
' gerrof ( or get outa ma pub ! ) I am working this patch ! '
Yes. a woman of the night working a day shift
// This may be the first time I have ever posted a Daily Mail link ! //
Mikey it is a bit like getting cancer - I know I have done both
I don't know about the 50's/60's but women fighting in the streets was common place in 70's/ 80's

PP...I promise I will try not to do it ever again !
Not where I Lived. Not until ariund the 90's.
Mikey, why are you so amazed at passers by not reacting? Its the so called 'bystander effect' which I referred to in my recent post on the alleged racist attack on the Tube. Scores of witnesses and some Underground staff who did nothing.

I think we should all be concerned, amazed or not. If a female relative of mine was being attacked, I would hope that somebody would come to her rescue.
Here's more to your story mikey from your favourite paper. It says it happened in Brum and the attacker had parked her VW Touran in the middle of the road, blocking traffic. She was asked how long she would be and this was her reaction.

About what?

bystander effect - not well defined I thought

Here people didnt want to start scrapping with women -and wouldnt therefore expect anyone else to intervene

whereas the bystander effect is everyone standing by thinking someone else will intervene.
Famous event in holland 90s when everyone watched someone drown in a gracht because they thought another ( any other ) would jump in. Lots of television chest beating after that
i' d like to think i would help but when it comes down to it would i ?
Clearly I came from an area where this type of thing was not common place. My era was the 70s and 80s and I would be out clubbing every weekend and frequenting the pubs, I hung around with bikers mostly. Ok not the biggest cities in England but Exeter, Torquay and Paignton were know trouble spots at night. Generally speaking if there was going to be trouble that is where it would have been.
Of course I witnessed the odd fight but very rarely were people fighting in the streets and even more rarely was it women.

Even now, I rarely witness fighting in the streets, I do see a lot of people staggering around drunk but rarely fighting.

I think I have been very lucky in the places where I was brought up and then where I chose to live.
Mikey - there is a lot of Daily Wail around
do you think I will get secondaries ?

Thanks ladybirder...it seems to be a simple request that cause the attack.
Pity that 16yo lad who intervened when two police officers allowed a guy to get out of their patrol car wasn't on the scene!
Oh how terrible, that poor peaceful man raised his hands but must have been elderly. ugh I wouldn't want to mess with this barbarian, I'd still feel the need to get involved mikey.
'though' .... Wouldn't that end up with 'me' then fighting in the street? How do you approach that?

I've been thinking that a large pineapple brought down upon the back of the head of this horrible woman might have helped !
