If anyone is interested in hearing an experts opinion, here's one from Professor Paul Rogers (from the BBC website):
Paul Rogers, professor of peace studies at Bradford University, said the UK's natural reaction would be to "go in hard" against IS, but that this presented a problem.

"[Islamic State] actually wants the West to attack it. If it gets that it can present itself as fighting the far enemy. This presents the British government, or any government in this position, with a real dilemma," he told BBC Breakfast.

"Do you do what many people in the country would want you to do? But if that's something your enemy would actually prefer, do you hold back and try other ways?"

Courage? He lied!! An innocent man has just been separated from his head in the most barbaric fashion. Hardly a time for your pathetic attempts at political point scoring. Personally, I would hope that in an effort to make the right decision, all members of parliament, regardless of political allegiance, will be wise enough to put puerile political squabbling aside and work together right now.

Naomi, to give them what they want is playing into their success. Air strikes cause massive collateral damage (civilian deaths) which ISIL use as fuel in their recruitment drives. They want us to think exactly as you are doing.

These people have allowed a narrow, backward understanding of an archaic religion to get in the way of a clear view of humane behaviour. Killing tens of thousands of completely innocent people, the vast majority of them their own citizens shows no use of intelligence whatsoever. So I stand by my accusation of stupidity.

No, they haven’t. It’s true that people interpret Islamic literature in a variety of ways, but IS can justify, through their religion, every action. This is ‘their’ religion.

If these backward, and violent people are not stupid, what are they ? They have put a very narrow view before helping their own people. Do they really think that the rest of the wor4ld is going to stand back and allow them to continue rampaging through vast areas of the Middle East, and do nothing ?

Zacs, Good question illustrating very well the diverse nature of Islam. It’s heartening to hear some Muslim leaders say that IS misinterprets Islam, but having read the Koran, I don’t think IS does misinterpret it. The moderates choose not to take the more morally objectionable sections of the book at face value, whereas IS chooses the opposite.
