According to BBC news this morning, Southampton hospital are now saying that because the Kings have said they can pay for the proton beam treatment they will now refer them even though it probably won't help their son's outcome! Well why not give him a chance anyway and I thought the parents had already told the hospital that they would pay for it anyway?
Kvalidir........I agree entirely, the crux of this problem emirates from what happened or didn't happen and it's accuracy from the Southampton General Hospital at the outset.

My guess? A bust up and a nasty verbal confrontation between medical staff and parents.
The Daily Telegraph sum it up nicely today...

//
As Southampton General Hospital, the Crown Prosecution Service and Hampshire Constabulary — the triumvirate that conspired to have Ashya King’s parents arrested — went into reverse, their tardiness in admitting their mistake meant that the Spanish courts could not free Mrs and Mrs King before Tuesday.

So despite everyone from David Cameron to Ashya’s doctor agreeing that the Kings had committed no criminal offence, they were kept in jail for 48 hours, 300 miles away from their son.
Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, admitted: “It has been a very unfortunate sequence of events and there have clearly been misunderstandings along the way.”

In court, CPS barrister Mehvish Chaudhry said the Kings could not be freed until the Spanish authorities heard the case in court. The Spanish authorities said the opposite: there was no need for a hearing as long as they had the necessary paperwork. Meanwhile, Mr and Mrs King were kept in jail.

Meanwhile, the CPS appeared to be in turmoil over how to extricate itself from the arrest warrant it had requested. //

Sounds like arrogant medical staff and a clueless Plod to me.

Proof if ever needed that we do live in a Police State. This was totally and utterly over the top. The Home office should have stepped in too, immediately.

Southampton Hospital though is generally very good. I have known many people treated there including for Leukemia and Southampton pulled out all the stops and got her through it.

There are always bad apples though in any barrel.

Yes Gromit, but never mind because the same clueless (- the NHS) lot cant protect us from known Jihadists.
And if Mikey is reading...

This is what I meant on the other threads when I said that the European Arrest Warrant was bogus and trumped up.

Oh I get it.

Minus!
Until a child is under the care of the court it is under the care of it's parents.
I have visited SGH many times over many years both as the relative of a patient and as an NHS employee. My experiences have been that the wards and public areas are filthy, the food diabolical, and there is a general culture of arrogance and bullying behaviour in the management and in some of the consultants. I wasn't impressed with nursing staff's idea of hygiene either....and don't get me started on A and E.
A certain Thatcher lover spoke too soon Innit ?
