Surley the stewards can control this rather than inconveneince the whole plane because some idiot wants to be inconsiderate. This happenned to me once, I just lifted up the seat in front to an upright postion, the guy did it again I lifted it again and that was it.

Americans quite often over-react to insignificant things.

it's not insignificant, having some idiots head in your lap is a gross invasion of personal space.
.

it could be worse 3T the nine year old kicking your seat from the rear may be packing a uzi - 9 ....

that we think is insignificant

In ER Abby wants the english doctor to testify on her side in sex harassment and she says - well in England we just dont get upset by this sort of thing....
They don't recline all that far, do they?
No JJ not that intrusive. Think they may have diverted because of the water throwing?
Question Author
that's an exageration but it is an annoyance, they should stop all the seats reclining in my view, well the ones that effect others anyway.
I can't understand why they diverted the flight. IMHO, there is no need to recline unless it's night time and everyone does. The seats might not go back too far, but it still feels like an invasion of space and privacy, and makes me uncomfortable.
Small planes shouldn't have seats that recline. You have limited space as it is.

I think the reason for diverting the flight could be the throwing of a glass (ok, plastic tumbler) or water. Cabin crew maybe felt that the situation could escalate to violence?
I was on a short haul fight and suffering from a very bad back condition that required that I had to relieve pressure on my lower back while sitting. I could only do this by reclining the seat. The horrendous woman behind me caused such a fuss for the whole 2 hours, even when I tried to explain why I needed to recline the seat. No food was served -if it had been I would have straightened up the seat for her. I would not have wanted the flight diverted but it would have been nice if the Stewards could have intervened -which they did not.
I think it is natural for humans to become fractious when squeezed into small inescapable spaces.
I neve fully recline my seat but on long haul flights I have to have slightly off upright. to sit upright for 12 hours is very uncomfortable.

No idea why they diverted the plane.

Those that recline seats generally belong to the selfish brigade. The answer is simple just dont provide reclining seats on small planes. Should make them lighter too which should help all round.
divebuddy -maybe they should weigh everyone and if you're over a certain weight you have to pay excess baggage lol!
And what about people who spread their legs into your leg space, and stick their elbows out over the armrest? Grrr... Drives me insane.
Brinjal - Aren't long haul planes usually bigger? When I went long haul it was a jumbo jet. Plenty of room.
divebuddy, I'll second that.

The crew must have considered the situation serious enough to warrant diversion. I was aboard a flight once when an argument broke out. Pretty scary. Since we were only a short way from our destination, the aggressor, who refused to sit down, was forcibly tied down. I wasn't unhappy with that.
I wonder why they didn't handcuff the water-thrower to his seat rather than divert the plane.
