1400 children abused......

cases of beatings, petrol being poured over them, and even worse.

Where was the Council and police, reports and complaints covered up? Not one council employee reprimanded or punished.

Disgraceful, absolutely disgraceful.

What will be the fall out of this? Other Yorks towns similarly affected?

to return to the op, we are precisely talking about the rape of children, more or less young, and the systemic failure of a local authority and police force to challenge and tackle it

so what should have happened?
Not entirely sure if age 12 or 13 is very young ? It would have been in my family, if I had some sisters instead of 4 younger brothers. So, apart from Khomeini, who else in the hierarchy of Islam condones child sexual abuse ?

People who are still alive and active this time please !

Asian perpetrators

The majority of those behind the abuse were described as Asian, while the victims were young white girls.
Yet the report found that councillors failed to engage with the town's Pakistani-heritage community during the inquiry period.
Some councillors were said to have hoped the issue would "go away", thinking it was a "one-off problem".
The report said several staff members were afraid they would be labelled racist if they identified the race of the perpetrators, while others said they were instructed by their managers not to do so.
Several councillors interviewed believed highlighting the race element would "give oxygen" to racist ideas and threaten community cohesion
My television is throwing a wobbly, and my husband's not here to sort it out - so I'm still alive, albeit not terribly active.

If you consider an 8 or 9 year old girl to be a child, there are plenty of Muslim fathers who would marry their daughters off at that age. I consider that to be child sexual abuse. (The Koran doesn't stipulate a marriageable age, but it does give advice to men on divorcing their pre-pubescent wives - so make of that what you will).
Humbersloop....try to get a viewing of the Ch 4 news tonight. It made for very interesting and revealing viewing.

Its quite clear that the Authorities were largely to blame in Rotherham, as the Enquiry Report makes perfectly clear. Most of these people are still in post tonight, including all the other Policemen that failed to act. Policemen who failed to act in other child abuse scandals are also still in position and still earning a salary, like in Rochdale for instance.

Child sexual abuse is still going on all over Britain tonight and it will continue tomorrow as well, and its this that is most chilling result of Rotherham.

All it takes for evil to exist is for good men, and women, to stand around and do nothing.

///To suggest that it is acceptable in Muslim communities, as some on here have suggested is the worse type of racism///

Since when has being a Muslim (a follower of Islam) been a Racial thing Mikey, there are Muslims of all Nationalities,

naomi, I thought it was puberty that defined that one.....
The imams actively approve of child marriage to older men. Their women and children are mere chattels to Pakistani men, they believe they are there to serve them. White women and vulnerable young girls are targetted by them as white women are considered lower than their own kind, The gangs do indeed hunt in packs for their gratification.
I'm glad that some of this false mysticism about the fear of being thought of as racist and bigoted is being brought out to the fore. It is disgraceful if that is the reason that Rotherham and I suspect other Counties have not acted on information for that very reason, for fear of upsetting certain people, I hope those men are all found and brought to a very painful realisation that this is England and they are not welcome to do as they want here. Imo justice will not be swift and sure enough to get rid of this dreadful breed altogether.
DT, Not according to the Koran - otherwise it wouldn't mention pre-pubescent wives. Don't forget the prophet Mohammed (he who did no wrong) married Aisha when she was only six - but although he had dalliances with her from the beginning, he did wait until she was nine before consummating the union.
Baldric...I have been saying this all day, if you read my posts.

But there is a couple of important omissions to your post.

Firstly, while the majority of girls abused were young white girls, some were not non-white.

And secondly, fear of being labeled racist wasn't the only reason why the Police and other people in Authority didn't act properly. There was a class issue here as well. Most of the girls were labeled as "white trash" and the sort of girls that would get into trouble due to their own innate immoral upbringing. The Council had the view that these girls were engaging in illegal sexual activity with complete agreement....in other words " they were asking for it" So it was OK for a 13 year old child to be gang-raped by 8 different men because she enjoyed it !

There needs to be a lot of resignations and prosecutions in Rotherham before this issue is put to bed.

Try to watch again tonights Ch4 News, with Jon Snow.
Baldric...you know perfectly well what I meant.
And you can bet your boots that the non-white girls weren’t Muslim, and were therefore considered just as fair game as the rest. Whatever the view of the authorities (who were utterly wrong), the fact remains that this specific kind of gang culture is prevalent among certain sections of the Muslim community. They were the perpetrators, and nothing excuses that.
//and my husband's not here to sort it out//

irony klaxon bypass there, or personal and cultural context?

It would appear you didn't Mikey!
Nobody, least of all me is excusing these crimes Naomi. But there plenty of guilt parties still living free tonight.
I didn't suggest you were excusing them, Mikey, but you continue to fail to understand the culture issues involved here - which is why you compare these crimes to those of people like Jimmy Savile.
I am not failing to understand anything Naomi, but you clearly think I am am, so I see not need to continue to debate this subject with you. You are ignoring Savile, et all because it doesn't serve your purposes as they were not brown. Debating issues with you is like trying to nail custard to the wall.

I am still waiting for you to produce proof that responsible Islamic authorities condone the rape of young girls. An awful lot of Catholic priests raped young boys but I can't find any evidence that the Vatican encouraged this behaviour.

You have your differences and I don't think that the differences will be agreed here. Surely the issue is what and how (and when) the authorities at both local and national level take what has happened forward, i.e. one option being the Ozzie secularist model that I have outlined before.

If you were in DC's shoes tonight or La Blonde Bombshell of a Home Sec, what would you be looking for in terms of action plans.
Mikey, //You are ignoring Savile, et all because it doesn't serve your purposes as they were not brown.//

You're becoming abusive. I don't ignore Savile et al - I've simply told you umpteen times that their agenda was not the agenda of these gangs - and I didn't suggest that any responsible Islamic authority condones the rape of young girls, so why you want me to provide evidence is anyone's guess. I have no idea what you're talking about, and I'm beginning to think that you don't either!

sp said at 11pm yesterday the following, slightly edited, "This thread is far too important to be used as a point-scoring arena." I come back to how would we recommend, as a group, the way forward and, IMO, it would be naive to think that AB is not read by someone in government...
