Both men should do well in those seats.
Boris will want to win his seat but will he be hoping that the Tories lose the election? That way the path would be clear for his leadership bid.
What kind of a place is South Thanet that Farage fancies his chances there?
Yes.......I agree with sandy^^^

Boris as a leader of an opposition party would be quite entertaining.

Boris as a leader of a Government would be a disaster.

Nigel Farage, the Ukip leader, is expected to be chosen as his party's general election candidate for South Thanet at a selection meeting on Tuesday night.

He is up against three other candidates and, although he has said he is "no shoo-in" and that "rank means nothing" in Ukip, his high profile and reputation as a campaigner make it extremely unlikely that members will pick anyone else.

Lord Ashcroft, the Conservative peer who now specialises in election polling, found Ukip on 32% in South Thanet, the Conservatives on 30% and Labour on 27%.
SandyRoe, I think it is not a 'good place' from what I have seen.

The Conservatives beat UKIP at the last general election by 20,000 votes.

My guess is that the Conservatives will hold South Thanet, but UKIp may win a couple of seats elsewhere.

Boris should win, but will now have to follow the party line more closely which may hamper his maverick image.
//What kind of a place is South Thanet?//

Sounds like the sort of place anyone except right-on liberal lefties would like to live. ie those who live in the real world.
You can tell that from a name, can you?
I'm puzzled by right wing Tories' love affair with BJ. He isn't particularly right wing (by their standards) He also said he would not stand for Parliament while mayor of London. So a man of his word ...

And there's more chance of his friend Putin's chance of winning the next Presidential election than there is of Farage not getting selected for the charming constituency of South Thanet. "Rank means nothing in UKIP"? Absolutely comrade :-)
Although South Thanet is a parliamentary constituency could it be considered the UK equivalent of the American 'Sunset Towns'?
This has to be the worst kept secret in British political history...you could have knocked me down with a feather when I first heard this !

Be afraid dave, be very afraid...the beast is about !
Dave has nothing to fear from Boris. He reminds me of his namesake, Yeltsin, a political clown. If Cameron does fall then it will not be Boris but Theresa May who will pick up the reins.
I like Boris, he has comical hair.
With the greatest of respect, to misjudge Boris is an act of folly. I will predict here and now, that he will lead the Tory Party in the near future, and that is why dave is looking over his shoulder.
well he's not yet going to stand, he's just going to look for a safe seat. The safest one from the country's point of view would be wired for electricity.
I second your prediction Mikey.
What kind of place is south Thanet? Copied from one of my earlier answers:

Thanet is one of the most deprived areas in the south east. It suffers high levels of unemployment and faces considerable challenges brought about by immigration. In May's elections UKIP gained seven of the eight Kent council seats in Thanet, all but wiping out the Tories in the area. There is huge disaffection with all the mainstream parties in many coastal areas of the country and voters in east Kent in particular feel that none of the main parties will do much to help their plight.
I don't think Boris Johnson will ever lead the Tory Party (sadly, perhaps). He is being touted by some on the party's right as its saviour, but as I said earlier he isn't not "one of them" at all. If the Tory right do succeed in hijacking the party as they did in the early seventies then it's more likely to be Theresa May. Or someone else.
