He's got problems.
Do you want a solution for him or for all the hapless souls in the same situation who dont get reported on?
Who is Gassa? You had better add a link or Baldric the Brave will be onto you like he was onto me yesterday for not explaining who James Foley was lol!

Not yet Mush, do you want to start one? your welcome.
He was in the local news only yesterday for signing up with a local Sunday league team. It is sad to see him like this just as it is for anybody gripped by this terrible illness.
The tragedy is one found in some sportsmen and women - a phenomenal talent lodged inside a flawed human being.

When the talent is at its peak, then human flaws are ignored and / or indluged. When the talent goes, just the flawed human being is left behind.

Such a shame - it appears Gascoigne is unable to help himself to conquor his demons.

I have a phrase - "Deal with your demons, or they will deal with you."

I think that sums up what is happening here.
He's an alcoholic. It's not about 'demons'

There are a few on this site like that Andy.
ummm - "He's an alcoholic. It's not about 'demons'..."

And what is alcoholism, if not a demon?
It is a demon, Andy, but alcoholism is a dreadful illness as well. This poor man is in a great deal of trouble, I fear.
SeaJayPea - absolutely no argument from me - I am aware that alcoholism is a serious and tenacious illness - I simply use the 'demon' phrase as an evocative way of summing up the situation.

With respect to some answers, "Who" controls your Left / right hand to pick the drink up? I controlled my urge for Smoking 20yrs ago, I Stopped.

It is an assumption that everyone is in charge of their life choices, and that free will and discipline are all that are required to avoid addicitions - an especially easy assumption if you are blessed with sufficient willpower and discipline to have overcome an addiction yourself.

However, some people do not possess that free will and discipline, and even though their rational mind knows that their continued use of their drug of choice is going to kill them, they remain unable to resist the pull, and continue to spiral downwards towards an inevitable conclusion.

Strange - I was only thinking about him this morning because one of my colleagues said she had encountered him at work and he was an absolute nightmare. He`s not just an alcoholic - I think he has mental health problems. Shame really but I think he`ll go the way of George Best.
