The other day, I posted a thread about an old advertising flier that I had found. I haven't completely restored it yet; however, here is a photo of one of the twenty pages in it after two steam treatments. You think that these fashions
will make a come-back, or have they already done so and disappeared again?:)

I think it's more worrying that they all look as though they've got 17" waists!

Well, it was wartime, Sir Alec; therefore, rationing was in effect:)
You obviously don't do much online dress shopping, you can still get those styles easily :-)
Very interesting and nostalgic find.
and they've been bricked up in a wall for 70 years.
stewey, thank's for sharing that! I love those old styles, reminds me of the old black & white movies. Sir Alec, I think the average ladies waistline is a 14s these days!
I don't think the Americans had rationing, certainly not in 1942.
Just realised it's from 72 years ago. Wow.

Prudie, I'll have you know that I buy all my dresses from the thrift stores.
Thrift stores? What do we call those in the UK? Are they like charity shops?
I have a couple of copies of 'Woman' & 'Woman's Own' somewhere, bought from an antique fair. I love to look at the ads & read how the women were total doormats (all a different era of course ;0) )
Question Author
Yes; for example, Salvation Army Stores.
It's just that it reminded me of a CSI I saw the other night. A male body was found with a 12" waist. He was one of those fanatics who wear lace up, whale bone corsets. It was rather grotesque!
Elina, thank you for your kind comment on Mamya's thread the other night. I only saw it a couple of days later.
Love the colours. Gallant Blue, Jungle Brown, Patriot Green and Philippina Tan and Black.
Can you tell it was wartime?
I've posted & chatted to you before Sir Alec .. a while back .. think I had the name Quassia then? .. & a few more s before that lol!
'usernames'

Graham-W, I found those colours interesting also. By the way, it's a Canadian flier, not American, and I've been told that there was rationing here but to the extent that it was in the UK.
Excuse me stewey .. I was sorry to hear about your dad Sir Alec x
Question Author
"but not to the extent"
Question Author
It's OK, Elina; after all, it is ChatterBank.
How are you going to store them away now stewey?
Stewey. I'll bet a few of the dresses came across here with the Canadian Airmen along with stockings and chocolate.
