Bit of an odd one, this. After the initial brouhaha I watched it again and it did raise a few questions for me.
Yes, the bridge did lean a little bit but, really, why mention it? It was (according to the plot anyway) built in rudimentary fashion from bamboo – it was never going to be structurally perfect, and previous TG building projects have always been noted for their (unremarked upon) cackhandedness.
That’s a secondary point, though. As Jezza made the comment, there was indeed a local on the bridge walking towards camera. Why? Why would that person be using a bridge which hadn’t existed the day before? I can only think their presence was to strengthen the ‘slope’ pun.
we should countersue for defiling an english word.
If this remark had been made on any other programme or by any other presenter, I wonder if there would be such an uproar?

Stuff like this irritates me as it detracts from genuine cases of racism and bigotry. We all get fed up reading about nonsense like this and start to hear cries of "it's PC gone mad". This silly woman is just trying to boost her public profile.
did the actress see the broadcast or did some helpful lawyer point out that she could get some money and publicity, maybe even a bit part in a soap.
On the other hand, either the BBC didn't research offensive language properly
------------------------
Is that a pre-requisite for making programmes these days then?
I've never heard of the term, but it's a bit of publicity for a less than z-list actress hoping to make a quick buck I suppose. The BBC shouldn't have to research so called 'offensive terms'. This sort of stupidity where people have to think about every word they say before they say it has been created by the politically correct brigade - and it really gets on my pip!
Am I the only one in Britain that had no idea that a slope meant something other than something you ski down ? How many other ordinary English words are going to turned into slang, just so that someone can be pretend to be offended ?
No, two of us mikey. What utter nonsense.
you sound better every day, mike. we'll have you joining ukip next. ;o)
Not sure if that is meant as a compliment Svejk !

Actually, I can't see any circumstance under which I would join UKIP. Perhaps it might be the last thing I do before the Men in White Coats come along with a straight-jacket.
Mikey, //Am I the only one in Britain that had no idea that a slope meant something other than something you ski down ?//

Clearly not. See the first few words of my post directly above yours.
I've never heard of it either.

Like has been mentioned before is it any different to be referred to as a Paddy/Taff/Jock etc...
How can I have missed it naomi ! Clearly there are at least 3 of us.
Bl**dy hell...thats 4 now !
Can they prove he meant "slope" in a racist manner?
If he says he didnt for instance, surely they can not be sued, can they?
Mikey, if you're counting, have a proper count-up.
Absolutely ridiculous , stupid woman needs a reality check !
I had never heard it used like this before. However,Jeremy Clarkson is quite well informed and it may have been staged for the programme having a burmese man walking across the bridge. If so then hope she wins her case and BBC get rid of Clarkson asap.Bring back Barrie Gill.
barry who. lol.
