// David Cameron will arrive in Israel on Wednesday under pressure to acknowledge the country as the Jewish homeland.
Groups representing some British Jews hope Mr Cameron will acknowledge Israel’s status as the world’s only Jewish state on his first visit to the country in office. //

1. Haven't we already done this?
2. Didn't the UN mandate, which Britain agreed to, acknowledge the State of Isreal?
3. Isn't this a bit humiliating. Smacks of making us jump throuh hoops.
4. Should Israel first apologise for the deaths of British personel when it took up an armed conflict against us?
5. Is this some kind of trap to make an agreement withe the Palestinians even harder to accomplish? Are they asking us to do this, to take sides in that conflict?

It should be borne in mind that the notion of Jews being a persecuted people is at variance with reality. They are amongst the richest and most influencial idendifiable people in the world.
sandy // Modeller, isn't saying 'a plague on both your houses' to both the robber and the victim a strange attitude?//

What's strange in saying both the Arabs and the Jews have committed acts of terrorism, going back many years. On each other and on other foreigners.
e.g Palestine police, UN personnel both civilian and military.
Jom, how do you work that out, i can't see how you can possibly come to that conclusion.
Emmie, The USA gives shedloads (from a big shed) of money to Israel why do you think that is?
so you mean Jewish people not based in UK. Because your comment makes no sense, you are saying that Jews are subject to the largesse of the Americans, but that doesn't apply here nor across other parts of the world.
Only in one place, is that so?
'ifamericansknew' does detail the ammount isreal receives from the us.
billions. i have read that millions are sent back to america as funds for politicians
campaign funds.
Emmie,I thought this discussion was about Israel, not UK Jews who are as much sinners as sinned against.
The reference to US financial support for Israel was to illustrate the influence that the pro Jewish lobby have in the most powerful country in the world. They aren't exactly victims.
Yes spikey, they back both horses in a two horse race like most US industry.

It should be borne in mind that the notion of Jews being a persecuted people is at variance with reality. They are amongst the richest and most influencial idendifiable people in the world.

hence my query, you lumped all Jews together.
Emmie, they are all Jews, how else?
perhaps i am missing something here, are you simply referring to Jewish people worldwide as wealthy, because that is not the case in my experience.
Emmie, I said they are amongst the richest and most influential, I didn't say they are all wealthy. I have no idea how the wealth of the average Jew stacks up against any other ethnic group.
no more no less i would think. I still find it disturbing that this idea Jews haven;t been persecuted as such hard to countenance. If Jewish people today are not, it's because one hopes the world has moved on -
Emmie the point people are making is that Jews are not the only people who have been persecuted, though they seem to think they are and are thus entitled to persecute the Palestinians. One would think that after thousands of years of 'persecution' they would recognise it when they do it themselves.
i agree about that last sentence, however after many thousands of years, of being held in little esteem, we got to the 20th century and find that another monster emerges out the woodwork who hates Jews, and he and his cronies did their level best to exterminate them off the face of the earth. I am well aware that they aren't the only ones who have been persecuted, but they certainly seem to me to be the longest overall.
-- answer removed --
i don't see that at all, that they bang on about it. I really don't understand this dislike, even hatred that comes over.
But they do bang on about it and anybody that criticizes Israel is labelled an anti-semite.. ignoring the fact that the palestinians are semitic too...
sorry i just don't agree.
