What have they got against polio vaccination? Perhaps if Allah could be persuaded to clear up the disease then the vaccinations would not be necessary.

Is it 'cause it's God' swill?
they have nothing against vaccination per-se, but everything against the "corrupt" western organization administering it. is it beyond the wit of the do-gooders to involve the local communities in a more visible manner?
It has little to do with Islam. Al Qaeda and its associates are a racist murderous organisation that has more in common with the German Nazi party than any religion. They use Islam in the same way Hitler cherry-picked Christianity and paganism to promote his vile views. Most Muslims regard Al Qaeda as apostates, but few wish to speak out in case it's their turn next to be beheaded with a curly sword.

Al Qaeda regards anything to do with the West and in particular the USA as being the work of the devil. The Nazis were also opposed to polio vaccination because it had been invented by an American Jew. Next we'll find that the BNP are against blood transfusions because they were developed by a black man. Racism is the problem, not religion.
^ WOW!!
A similar thing happened in Nigeria when the West tried to wipe out polio from the African continent.
Muslim leaders started rumours, among the poorest and most needy, that the injections had been mixed with infertility agents, HIV infections and live polio virus. Whole villages then, understandably, rejected the aid out of hand.

Graham; //Muslim leaders started rumours, among the poorest and most needy, that the injections had been mixed with infertility agents, HIV infections and live polio virus. Whole villages then, understandably, rejected the aid out of hand.//
I wonder why the 'Muslim leaders' would do that, do you have a link please?
The CIA use aid and medical organisations to plant spies in Pakistan. That ha successes like finding bin Laden, but it put genuine aid workers in danger.

If the CIA didn't hide their spies in Aid groups, then they wouldn't put those workers in danger.
Perhaps the Taliban are getting a little confused and mistaking POLIO for POLO, in which a 'Hired Assassin' is just a polo term for 'A Professional Player'?

I heard this on the car radio this morning. My reaction? T*****s!
It's all the West's fault according to a couple of ABers, perhaps we should save our money and resources and spend it on ourselves?
Vaccination teams from around the globe have been placed in jeopardy or lost their lives, through suspicion and ignorance mostly.

In some instances, it might be because some community/militia group leaders suspect that the vaccination programme is a cover for intelligence gathering, in other instances, such as in Northern Nigeria, it is because some of the community leaders have preached that such programmes are a western conspiracy and that the vaccinations will cause/contain HIV, or will cause infertility.

The death toll amongst vaccination workers in these areas- and sadly, many are in muslim areas- is high.

Just 1 year ago, 8 female vaccinators were shot dead in Northern Nigeria, the shooting thought to be the work of the islamic militant group and al-quaeda affilitiate, Boko Haram.

" .. in 1396, Richard II of England was joined in marriage to young Isabel of France, who had been 7 years old when their engagement was announced the previous year in Paris. "
There was great rejoicing throughout the land apparently. :-)
700 hundred years ago, don't you think we have moved on since then, couldn't you find a slightly later example
promise in marriage in the royal households were when they were very young, they didn't get married at that age, it was an alliance of royal households. Not to mention that they didn't generally live as long in those days, what with plague, wars, and any number of nasty diseases which would kill you
Yes of course, and in fairness the rejoicing was that it ended the hundred years war.
//they didn't generally live as long in those days, what with plague, wars, and any number of nasty diseases which would kill you//
add a few American drones dropping bombs, and it sounds not unlike present day Afghanistan. :-)
not that Muslims aren't killing one another of course.
