Just reading this months Which Mag & offered warranties, what's your views on them? are they worth the money? have you had one that's been a waste of money?

I don't generally buy warranties with household electrical items. Although when we bought our TV 2 years ago we did buy a warranty for £27.95 for 5 years (10% of the cost of TV). If it were a used car not from a main dealer maybe I would consider it depending on the cost of car & warranty.
If you buy a car and have limited mechanical knowledge then a warranty is a good idea.If you buy a high end car then its a must...cost against risk and all that...but scrutinise the small print first.

Just been reading a Warranty Issue in this Months Which Mag Bright, person bought a 2nd hand Mini, was advised it needed a water pump + timing chain!!!! the warrantee comp tried to get out of paying until he got in contact with the ombudsman, it was then sorted.
T...I think the aftermarket deals can be a bit of a lottery.You need to be on the ball with all the exclusions.The problem is all modern cars are so complex that owning one outside warranty is very risky.
