This isn't the first time it's happened. When the story originally broke, there was more than one news agency that got the two singers mixed up.

Some would say it's divine justice for Steps' atrocious cover of the Bee Gees' 'Tragedy'.

Not me...
seems to me that the normal rules are set aside when dealing with paedophilia, and anything goes - and the wrongly accused innocent are just considered to be collateral damage.
Unfortunately the public gets on the bandwagon and doesn't check facts - like that guy who was persecuted for paedophilia, when he was a paediatrician. Or that nutter who's just been jailed for killing a man he thought was photographing children, in fact he was filming the killer's antisocial behaviour.

on every type of news media, this was reported as a man jailed for killing someone who had been wrongly accused of paedophilia - in such a way that you could imply the crime was excusable if he really had been a paedophile.
not surprising, there must be thousands of Ian Wakins in the country/ With a common name I'd have thought that the media would be doubly vigilant. I am eternally grateful that my name is relativelu uncommon!
