Just to get the percentage figure of my Muslim/ immigration threads a little nearer to the 99% figure that Andy Hughes estimated, I just had to post this story. :0)

But jesting apart, this story is an example of what our young children are being brain washed into and all under threats of racism.

In the early 70s when I was at school, we were taken to a mosque, a synagogue, a Sikh temple (not all on the same day) and we had visiting vicars. This was all part of RE and we all enjoyed it. I remember going to Durham Cathedral with the school.
We learnt about ancient religions, too, such as paganism.

I don't see anything wrong with it at all.
nothing wrong with the visit, EVERYTHING wrong with the threat.
We also went the local Salvation Army hostel to see the work they do for the homeless. The band played for us, naturally. :D

Exactly!
"nothing wrong with the visit"

true to a degree...but....I bet they werent going to be going to a synagogue and have threats issued if they didnt, or a christian church and have threats issued....its all about muslims and PC here, its not about the visit per se

It is a trip to Staffordshire University.
Yes, baz, it would be interesting to note if any similar sanctions would be threatened when dealing with non-attenders on a day when the school was due to visit a CofE establishment. Imagine this letter from the head of a primary school in Bradford:

Yes, I can see that happening.

“No child is being racist or to be branded racist. That nonsense comes from an angry parent. “

Come, come, Fred. It’s somewhat pedantic of you to contend that it is the parents who are being branded by the threatened “Racial Discrimination note [whatever that might be] which will be attached to your child’s education record”. After all, although the parents may cause the sanction to be imposed it is the child who suffers its consequences.

All in all a striking example (if ever one were needed) that the education of children is not a task to be entrusted to the State (and most certainly not local authorities).

Fred, the nonsense doesn’t come from an angry parent – it comes from this headmistress. What Muslim parents would think if the boot was on the other foot is irrelevant. This woman isn’t fit for office. There is no excuse.
what Naomi said.
I completely agree with woofgang. When I was at school, as part of our RE lessons, we had to learn about other religions. Isn't that the same as what's happening here?

The language in the letter is completely wrong, and over the top. However, I would love to know whether any Muslim kids attend that school. If the parent of that child didn't want the to attend, for some reason - would they too have this noted on their permanent record?
Yes - agree with naomi24.

/// The Head made a mistake and the Council overruled her. Story? What story? ///

Just because the council overruled her, doesn't clear this headteacher of her threats, she should be disciplined by removing her from her position.

And don't you think that it should be reported that there are such headteachers who contain thoughts such as this?

I am sure you would have wanted it reporting if a headteacher had made similar threats against ethnic minority children and their parents.

/// Boy #2 goes to a C of E school and is going to visit a mosque and a Sikh temple after Christmas. I think it is a good thing, I want my children to know about and appreciate others' beliefs and understanding (none off my children are remotely religious but they are tolerant of others). PS - wish his trip was only costing £5. ///

You are not on your own in posting such sentiments, and I agree with what you say, but as many have pointed out, the fact remains that there is nothing wrong with the idea per-Se, it is the Head's threatening letter to the parents that is under criticism here.

AOG

If you think it's a good idea, then why did you state in your question that this is a story of 'what our young children are being brainwashed into'.

It's either learning or brainwashing. It can't be both.
