/// Speaking in a loud voice, - "HE" - gave a short speech, which was greeted with enthusiastic applause. ///

/// He was addressing a meeting in the community centre of Page Hall, a shabby grid of terrace streets in Sheffield, and giving voice to what many in the audience had long thought - but dared not say. ///

/// ‘We want to claim our streets back.///

A speech from the BNP or the EDL perhaps?

No instead of the word "HE" I purposely left out the following description of the speaker, which was as follows:

/// a bearded man in traditional Pakistani garb ///

Could he possibly be classed as a racist?

/// ANOTHEOLDGIT, if you are wanting the Roma immigrants to be returnt, how would you identify them? ///

Yet another none relevant silly question, sending home the Roma immigrants is no wish of mine, but it is obviously the wish of those Pakistanis, so why don't you address your question to them?
I say 'possibly', because I know nothing about the area, or what's really happening. I've only got the report in the Daily Mail to go on.

...and as you know...
@FredPuli43

//baz, not only were they singled out by the NF in the seventies, but Jews were not allowed in certain golf clubs. //

Is there any truth in the rumour that a lot of business deals are thrashed out on the course and/or the clubhouse?

If true that means the social exclusion extends a whole lot further than the boundaries of the course.

/// If what you're saying is true, then it is unacceptable. ///

You are not suggesting that Sir Alec is telling 'porkys' are you?
"but it is obviously the wish of those Pakistanis"

Hang on - do you mean like Colin Barton, 54, and his wife, Nichola...or perhaps Paul Downend, a 46-year-old retail manager, and his wife, Alison, 51, who works at a Yorkshire hospital.

Or maybe Susan Mason, 60, has lived in Popple Street, in the heart of Page Hall, for a quarter of a century

My favourite part of your threads is when you step through the looking glass and start randomly typing stuff that fits with your argument.

It's fantastic.

Better than vaudeville.
AOG

"You are not suggesting that Sir Alec is telling 'porkys' are you?"

Absolutely not. And Sir Alec, if I gave that impression, I apologise.

AOG - the plural of porky is porkies, not porky's.

Porky's is a name of a 1980s comedy film.

/// Yes, possibly.///

I was just about to congratulate you on bringing this thread back on track, and then I turn the page to read this from you:

/// I say 'possibly', because I know nothing about the area, or what's really happening. I've only got the report in the Daily Mail to go on.

...and as you know...///

Yes, Yes, it's all lies from the Daily Mail, that most useful (if not now greatly overused) of all side track methods, that being when one reads something a little racially disturbing, blame it on the 'messenger'.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, you wrote " Strange that there have been no posts telling us how these immigrants bring only good to this country, look where the NHS would be without them is generally banded about.

Should we ignore the EU and close our borders to these people, should we send the 'Go home' van to this area?

Perhaps some of the Pro-Immigration ABers can come up with some answers?" You are the one who posed the question about sending them home, so are you now saying they should not be sent home?
AOG

What I meant was I don't trust the Daily Mail, not that it's making up this story. Hence 'possibly'.

Remember, you were the one who posed the doubt in your original question. I'm merely pointing that yes, he might be being racist. It's possible, but I only have the Daily Mail's spin on it...and there have been so many occasions where the paper has 'engineered' a story to fit with it's editorial line.

I'm sure you don't believe everything you read in the Mail? That would be silly.

Almost as silly as referring to the Pakistanis in the report, where the only interviewees have decidedly non-Pakistani names.

I think this is what happens if you read the Mail too frequently.

That's why I prefer The Independent. It treats it's readers with respect.
The truth is whether we like it or not we are told by the EU who we can accept & who we cannot. My beef is not with people who come here to make a better life for themselves & their families but with the unacceptable system that we are now tied to & apparently cannot escape. Where will it end ?.

WR.

/// Absolutely not. And Sir Alec, if I gave that impression, I apologise.//

"If what you are saying is true" seems a little late apologising when someone points out what you actually said.

/// AOG - the plural of porky is porkies, not porky's. ///

Oh dear are we now getting lost for words, when you start correcting others simple spelling mistakes.

AOG

"Strange that there have been no posts telling us how these immigrants bring only good to this country, look where the NHS would be without them is generally banded about."

You get that response when you refer to immigrants from the West Indies and Indian subcontinent, who have large numbers working for the NHS.

At the moment, we don't know the demographics of the Roma community - so why would anyone refer to their work in any particular field?

AOG

Not a spelling mistake.

Bad grammar.

English is a wonderfully powerful language. If immigrants go to the trouble of learning it, I would expect you to as well.
AOG

I think that Sir Alec is the only person who should be bothered by my statement.

And as he has not responded, I kindly suggest you leave it, because, with the best will in the world, it's got bog all to do with you.
Anyway - I think I've answered your question, and neatly summarised your many and varied shoulder chips, so I'm signing off this thread as I have to go and uproot a bay tree.

Enjoy the rest of the debate (although I fear the steam has gone out of it).

I made no comment either way regarding sending them home, I was simply baiting the Pro-Immigration Brigade to make some suggestions seeing that they agreed with this Muslim chap, when he said " ‘We want to claim our streets back".

Sir Alec is a She not a He

I notice that at least three threads have been removed anyone know who's they were, and what they said?

Wow!, to remove three complete threads rather than just individual posts suggests they must have been quite offensive.

Yes English is such a powerful language, and before you suggest that we the English should go to the trouble to learn it, I suggest that the likes of you should not debase it with your own bad language.
