/// The glamorous 40-year-old former GMTV political editor was 15 when she posed for the pictures to earn money to buy herself some new clothes. ///

There are plenty of girls who are short of money but who would never dream of posing topless for money at any age never mind at just 15 years of age, but even if they did it would be condemned as "out of date now" by Ms de Piero.

/// Ms de Piero said that when the truth about her photos emerged, Harriet Harman – who was the women and equalities minister at the time – provided her with ‘amazing’ support. ///

/// She told her: ‘Don’t worry, it’s absolutely fine Gloria, we wouldn’t judge you for that,’ and urged her not to ‘change’ or get ‘buttoned up’. ///

How very understanding of you Harriet, can you imagine what she would have said if this had been a female Tory minister?

Seems like a good role model for girls or women, reading that career profile
I have disliked Ms Jackson since i don't know when, she wasn't a bad actress but my dislike takes on a different hue because of her politics, i have come across her any number of times, and like another party hack who shall remain nameless, never ceases to get his face in all the local papers, not necessarily for the right reasons.
if you say so. tiresome non story.
at least Gromit was right about that
Do men need a spokesperson? Are they discriminated against? Is there a glass ceiling for men? That would be fascinating :)
Labour lost a lot of women voters to the Tories at the last election, particularly working-class women. They will want them back. Ms de Piero does not seem particularly working-class, but this issue haas no doubt been raised because it suggests she understands the pressures on young women of all ages (since posing topless is not class-specific).
my dislike takes on a different hue because of her politics

well, that's just because you loathe Labour. All your posts take on a different hue because of this.
do women need a spokesperson, i doubt it, a minister for women sounds like something out of monty python. Men don't because they run the show, however women in business, those in the boardroom don't need a spokesperson, they are their own women, all they need is fair and equal treatment.
Glad to hear that the labour party provide topless women with 'amazing support'. Should I recommend the brand to Mrs. jom?
how do you know i loathe labour, i dislike most of them, perhaps you should read more of what i actually say than just cherry pick
@ Emmie "however women in business, those in the boardroom don't need a spokesperson, they are their own women, all they need is fair and equal treatment."
Thats not the experience of the women colleagues I have worked with, at board level and at middle management.

And where do you think the impetus for fair and equal treatment comes from, if not from politics? And do you think a parliament of 650 MPs, with 500 odd male MPs will be able to adequately reflect and prioritise on those things that offer fair and equitable treatment of women in society?
@Emmie i think we have all made the assumption you loathe Labour, and would not vote for them in a million years. Is that a wrong assumption then?
I've been reading your posts for a long time, emmie, and I can't remember any in which you've had a good word to say for Labour. Like to point out a few?
i have little time for Labour, that has been patently obvious all along, I did loathe Blair right from when he was elected, i always thought he was a two faced show off, out for his own back, however i don't much care for the coalition, and if you can find a post which says they are doing a great job and all is well with the world then i would personally eat my hat. I have a couple which will take a while, i think they have made some glaring mistakes from the start one of which seems to have got shackled to clegg and his not so merry men. irrespective of whether they would have got into government, it would have been better had the Tories not made that alliance, i would rather they lost an election that pally up with these nobodies.

Yes much more so, they have been expected to lay down their very lives in defence of their country, their women and their children, have women ever been expected to do the same.

Wasn't it during WW1 that women hounded men to join up or face accusation of cowardice from them, white feathers and all that?
if the next election is another coalition of tory/lib dem i can't see it being much use, nor really a labour/lib dem pact, but time is going to tell, and it's still anyone's race -
I didn't mention your opinion of the coalition, emmie - just Labour. So I have been reading your posts, and not cherry-picking.
aog, are you suggesting that there be a minister for the men of 1914?

You may find the government (or any party) more concerned with running the country the way it is right now - with women in the military and all.
so women didn't go to war and get killed, flipping hell. if you know your history, the men in charge of the forces would not allow women to fight on the front line, i do think that it is still the same now, however then women worked in factories which got bombed, in homes which got bombed, and indeed on the land, because the men went off to war, women flew aircraft to the RAF bases around the country, they flew them in pretty unsociable conditions, not just ack ack but in all weathers, so the fly boys could get their replacement planes to take on the Luftwaffe
perhaps you should read a bit more about women in war, maybe then you will see that most did their bit and more.
Makes a change to see a glamorous Labour MP. They are usually plain miserable looking women who seem to go out of their way to make themselves drab and unattractive.
