I can't even read all that without getting enraged. Totally wrong, that's all I'm saying.
it is nothing new, however some should see the repercussions of sex selection, an imbalance of one gender, where you have too many males and not enough females, it's a fine line to tread. I don't like the idea at all.
Awful.

Who are the boys going to marry? There won't be enough girls...
I don't like it either. But the alternative is bringing unwanted children into the world, which is surely worse.
cloverjo, this is about choosing to abort the female because you want a boy... or vice versa,
Cleverjo - it's unwanted girls, not unwanted pregnancies...
Some people can't even have kids through no fault of their own and there are scumbags out there that can play god just because they aren't happy with the sex of their child. These people don't deserve to have kids if they are going to be happy whether its a boy or a girl or not. I'm really getting wound up now. I'm going outside to take my anger out on my cement mixer.
It's disgusting, perhaps they should legislate to make it illegal to give out the sex of a baby during a scan.

If people want a certain gender knowing it's 50/50 either way, then perhaps they should rethink their want.
Yes, so a woman has to have a boy or girl she doesn't want. We all know of the terrible sadness that comes with unwanted children.

As I said, I don't like it, it feels wrong to abort on grounds of gender, but there can't be much worse in life than being an unwanted child, for whatever reason.

scans and tests are done sometimes to determine the risks of serious disease or defects, or downs syndrome, i wonder how many are aborted for that reason? terrible really, i believe that each child is precious but i can understand abortion but not for gender selection.
they don't have to have the child at all, they are suggesting that to deliberately choose to abort a child because you have four girls already and wanted a boy seems wrong.
I'm pro abortion but not for gender reasons.
me too.
Having done a bit of genealogy, I have to say that I have seen actual cases of

girl, girl, girl, girl, girl, girl, boy

and no more babies after that.

All this undoubtedly revolves around 'preserving the family name'. It's not a 'syndrome' but, if it had to have a name, I'd call it "Henry-the-Eighth-ism"

Isn't it strange how we value a surname more highly than a life?

some well to do families relied on male heirs not just to preserve the family name but the estate, as property, estates, did not go to the girls in the family, so if no male heir the whole kit and caboodle could go to a distant male relative, so money, estate effectively lost. Much of that has changed thank goodness, but still it's how many families kept the name, estate alive, by having a male heir to follow on.
Hypognosis - you're so right. When my aunt was pregnant I remember my granddad praying it would be a boy just for the namesake...
I agree entirely. A healthy baby is a healthy baby and it's shameful people think this way. As i said on the other thread, the other day, it probably is legal, because the reasons are so vague- if it affects the physical or psychological welfare of the mother. I would suggest moving the limit for abortion on demand to maybe twelve weeks, except in extreme cases of health /disability. I know "abortion on demand" doesn't officially exist, but we all know it does. I don't think you can tell the sex of a foetus up to that stage, either.
I'm not anti abortion, but I can't agree with this.
This can only amount to appalling social engineering on a grand scale. If this woman Ann Furedi is right, why were the two Doctors who performed sex-selection abortions referred to the CPS ? Is it or is not against the law ?
