No - assylum claims by atheletes and coaches have been around as long as assylum has been offered.
it surprises me that there were only 70 from 10,000
No
Should we be at all surprised that the Daily Mail keeps regurgitating an an old story? No.

That may be true but didn't I read somewhere that 30,000 ' olympic visitors ' are still here .
Blinding news!!!

Hope they stay - we'll do even better in Brazil 2016.
will we, why?

Because if they are granted leave to remain, we will have a whole extra bunch of Olympic-level athletes who will be able to compete under the flag of the UK.

Bit like Zola Budd.
"Four African athletes have been reported missing in Newham, London"

If they're missing how do they know they're in Newham?
Just a thought .. :-)
perhaps denying a place to our home grown youngsters. Bit like football, import them all, then find there are few English in the premier league.
perhaps that's where they were living, or last spotted.

Or encouraging our own youngsters to strive to be evn better!

Not that they need encourage, looking at how brilliantly we did in the last to Olympics.

Win-win.
first off what makes you think they are any good, they may be, but that is not to say they are. or be good enough to compete for Britain or whether that would be their aim, you are presuming a lot thinking so.
if they want to come and stay in Britain, why didn't they do it the legal way, through the proper channels,
sport in UK is doing pretty well, it needs money and dedicated people
we have i am sure enough British people waiting in the wings to get their chance..
em10

They didn't do it illegally. That would make them illegal immigrants. Aren't they claiming asylum?

And the reason I think they're good, is because they are Olympic level athletes.

They're generally quite good at sport.

Eric the Eel & Eddie the Eagle were olympians.

Alright trig, how's tricks.
not all competitors at the these sporting events are the creme de la creme,
top sports like athletics perhaps, but even then some really are in it because the country might send just one representative. A good one was Eddie the Eagle, one of ours, some may remember him, he gave it his best shot, but most agreed that he wasn't in the same class as the rest of the competitors, so to suggest that because it's the Olympics they must be good, is not quite correct.
We need our home grown youngsters to be given the money, sporting chance to make it to the top.
Short answer, no not at all.
