AOG - no, I have to agree with Fred here.

To be secret means that no-one knows about the meetings.

To be secretive means that people know about the meetings, but the attendees are reluctant to discuss details.

The two concepts differ, so on this occasion, pedantry is not apparent.
MI5 and MI6 are secretive but they are not a secret.
aog, is it pedantic to distinguish between words which have the same root but different meanings? And it is not pedantic to know and see the difference, as you appear not to do? You chose to treat them as the same. That smacks of ignorance of the English language, but, if you're happy with that, who am I to complain of it; it must be a long-established habit of yours and difficult to break. Either that or you do it deliberately. Which is it, or is there another alternative?

Ever heard of the Secret Service, or doesn't anyone know it exists?

Perhaps it should be called the Secretive Service?
