Most of the time, Steve Bell cartoons leave me with a "meh" reaction.

I do not think Bell is ever funny. He is sometimes clever, but on this occassion, I think not. An acquired taste that is not for me. Prefer Matt in the DT.
Question Author
Gromi...not sure how anybody could think that Bell is never funny. Not funny all of the time would make sense but never ? Too surreal for many people perhaps .

Looked at the Matt...worth a titter...thanks !
wossa 'meh' reaction ?

izzat the same as a 'ya whaaaaaa...?' comment [which I can understand] or a 'ya whaaaaaa... yeh' comment which I have neva understood. The yeh at the end seems to signify that the commenter has reflected mid-sentence on the content of the comment and is confirming it. I know I am ill - I should neva have read de Saussure.

My own comment as a DT reader see above was: hahahaha

I liked Matt cartoon of bankers washed ashore observed by a gormless sea gull cover in a strange substance (£1 notes)

Swiveleyesation is a word of the moment - didja see Gerald Howarth MP in the House, turning one side and then the other as he spoke ?
'He's swivelling - watch his eyes ! ' I shouted to the dog. He was referring to a creeping Gay agenda along with where will it all end ?

Equal rights for gays - I suppose

You realise this is all about money dont you ? Rock cakes such as myself Jews Sun worshiippers are not affected as the Priest, High Priest whatever can refuse because you have to hire a civil registrar to record the marriage at the time - whereas the Proddies, the vicar can register by the themselves - hence a fee to the said vicar - and basically their power to register has been converted into a duty.

@ Gromit - Each to their own - but Bells use of language in the punchline/caption to this gag is both funny and clever

I think that is it for me, Mikey - most of the time he is just too surreal for his cartoons to have much impact on me :)
Question Author
PP...I honestly haven't a clue what you are talking about but I am sure its very interesting.

Too surreal for me perhaps !
@ PeterP You ask us to define a "meh" moment when you come out with this incomprehensible sentence? :)

"Rock cakes such as myself Jews Sun worshiippers" Whats a rock cake? Whats a Jews Sun worshipper?

And using the word from the punchline kind of spoils the gag for those that might not have read the cartoon, don't ya think?

A "meh" moment is a kind of "take it or leave it" an " its all right but not something to get too bothered about" kind of thing.
Question Author
Come on PP...give us all a clue here !
I have every Steve Bell annual since 1981 and the Maggie's Farm Collection. I am not against him. He is worth reading (especially in a compilation) for the times he does hit the nail on the head.

I liked the Matt cartoon after Farrage went to scotland. It showed a fish an chips shop with a sign for 'battered fruitcake'.
Oh yah, etc.
Question Author
Gromit...you have really puzzled me now. You say that you don't think Steve Bell is "ever funny" but yet you have every Steve Bell annual since 1981
( lucky you ! )

????????????????
Marriages go round in two bits - civil and religious.
If you are a Rock Cake = oops Roman Catholic - you have to hire a registrar to register the marriage as the (RC) Priest cant do it. He comes in at the vestry bit and fills out the register. The Rock Cake sky Pilot ( = Priest) can't.

I conclude it is the same for Sun Worshippers and other minorities

Didnt everyone know that ?
Question Author
PP...you have introduced an entirely new vocabulary...please let me know if you have any more new phrases. I am always looking to spice up my language in new and interesting ways !
oh Dear I am feeling my age.
@PP Ahh, thanks for the clarification.

The facts - about civil and religious etc, yes I did. But I have never heard Rock Cakes being used as a descriptor for Roman Catholics before.

Thanks for the clarification :)
i can't say i like him at all.
