Speaking as a male I cannot begin to understand how anyone could do this let alone a mother. There's no conclusion been drawn by the police yet but it seems obvious what's happened.

This sickens me to my stomach.

So sad.....real tragedy..
I don't even know what to sat about this, it's so utterly sad :(
To say, doh.
nobody can put themselves in her shoes, we don't know what might have driven her to this - a woman in the depths of despair or depression, not coping - certainly wouldn't be thinking in a logical manner.

It is tragic, no-one can know what drove her to do such a thing, especially being pregnant.
Aren't these family tragedies becoming more common though? Terrible, really terrible.
Wan't there another case just the other day with a mother and 2 kids found dead?

Obviously tragic whenever you hear stories like this..

rsvp - That's exactly what I was thinking. It seems like every week that something like this happens.
Whilst I agree that she must have been in some emotional turmoil I will never ever be able to comprehend how a anyone let alone a mother could harm children.
chrisgal - can remember when I was a child that a murder was almost a national event - nowadays it often doesn't warrant anything other than a couple of lines in a local newspaper. These family tragedies involving children are becoming almost commonplace. Sad, sad reflection on what's happening around us :-((
She had children aged 3, 2 and 1 and was heavily pregnant. Just split from their father. This is enough to make you do something desperate.
From the nspcc site:

"•On average, every week in England and Wales one child is killed at the hands of another person.

•On average, 52 children in England and Wales are killed at the hands of another person every year.

•Over two thirds of children killed at the hands of another person in England and Wales are aged under five years.

•Infants aged under one year are more at risk of being killed at the hands of another person than any other single year age group in England and Wales.

•Every ten days in England and Wales one child is killed at the hands of their parent. In over two thirds (67% on average) of all cases of children killed at the hands of another person, the parent is the principal suspect"

The killing of a child is and always has been quite a common event, it should be noted this is far far from a new trend and links to the national statistics can be accessed from the nspcc site to see the background

anyone with mental health issues or personal tragedy in their lives would have my support however in cases like this my sympathy can only go out to the children, irrespective of the circumstances we are all capable of seeing help for our offspring and nothing in this womans personal life can explain her actions.

Very sad and tragic but I am not convinced it is getting more common. Things are reported much more now and with immediate media it is cheap and easy to broadcast. Not all murders are reported even today.

Doesn't make it any easier though, whatever the stats may say, but being realistic what can you do about it?
An absolute tragedy, and yes it is becoming more and more commonplace, even in the days when women faced much more hardships and emotional issues than they do today, they very really resorted to acts such as these.

Interesting to note however that if it had been a man who had committed such acts, I doubt very much if he would have received such sympathetic comments, as some ABers on here have shown this mother, there was no reason for her to take the lives of those three young children.
Unfortunately there have been several occurences that I can think of where men have done similar things.
I wish a synopsis of a link was always put with it.

I would imagine if you reached a stage where you thought all was worthless and just existence simply pain, then it is a small step from there to "protect" your offspring from that by taking them from life when you opt out. I think one can finds these things more difficult to understand until one has experienced a mental state where one isn't coping or thinking well. We are all a product of the connections our brain makes and the emergent state that produces for us as our reality; as how we are.
Yes, OG, surely the woman reached such a state of mind that she thought life was hopeless and that there was no future for her children either. And if she believed in an afterlife, that would have made her unbalanced judgment easier, though contrary to the teachings of any church
More likely in the past it just wasn't reported. On some ways life has changed little for maybe centuries - the same pressures and fears of keeping your children alive applying as much today as ever they did. How many times were babies just left out on rubbish dumps? Probably far more than is reported. The news is just better than ever at reporting things.
id say she did it, because at that time she felt she had no option,, so sad :(
Awfully sad, poor girl must not have seen any hope at all.
