While Clare Balding is dishing out labels to male football fans by calling them both homophobic and racist, and then also claiming that women players are more skillful than men, perhaps she should at the same time attach the label sexist to herself?

Incidentally why did the BBC deem it necessary to employ her to host the Boat Race, as if we don't we see far too much of her on our screens now?

No, no, a thousand times no! You have totally missed the point.
There is a very big difference between "thought provoking" and just plain intolerant, petulant and attacking which is what AOG appears to be on a daily basis.
AOG - the same old responses to anyone who questions you!
"3615 answers, 29 questions, in four years Mmmmm!!!!!"

"Mmmmm" what??

Surely ANSWERING (rather than questioning) is what AB is all about?
Does it not cross your little Daily Mail reading mind that providing answers to peoples questions is just that ..PROVIDING.
"What is this twenty questions?"
You asked a question, you have to expect more questions in response, otherwise...
...what is this, a dictatorship?
I've posted a fair few responses to this AOG and you know what my conclusion is about you? Whether you admit it or not, I believe you THRIVE off the confrontation you get here.
most are, imo.....some of the chants i've heard on the terraces are foul.
Of course he does, AP.

His take here wasn't the football or the delta between male and female football and it wasn't about her exposure on TV though, I think, she risks becoming too over-exposed. It was about trying to stir the pot on racism and homophobia, Clare being our beloved lesbian (sorry JT but you ain't on TV - yet).
"And as a result Gray got what he deserved - pilloried. "

and an even higher paid job with another tv channel

i apologise for being late in joining my own debate, but I have been otherwise engaged.

I haven't yet had time to read through all your posts but one that I must address is em10's when he referred to Gary Lineker as a 'DUFFER'

em you said that duffer isn't name calling, well I must disagree with you, in my long ago school days, it was considered 'name calling' when one pupil called another 'a duffer' meaning a dunce or a person with not much intelligence, an incompetent or dim-witted person.

Like I said there was no need for that, Gary Lineker was not even under discussion.

/// aog,you say that perhaps Clare Balding should admit to being sexist. Now you object to Gary Lineker being called a duffer. Now, why is calling Lineker a duffer wrong but suggesting that Balding is sexist and lacking in self-perception right ? ///

Once again you choose to twist my words so as to get over your argument.

Did I say that Clare-Balding was "lacking in self-perception" WRONG.

I was also not unnecessarily name calling Clare-Balding, as em10 was regarding Gary Lineker, I was merely pointing out that she is wrong to name call when her own comments regarding women being superior than men in the game of football, might also be construed as a sexist remark.

/// So then, anotheoldgit, do you or do you not think there is homophobic and racist chanting at football matches? ///

Of course there is some racist chanting, one does not have to go to a match to know that, it is widely reported by the media.

Can't say the same about homophobic chanting though, taking into consideration the lack of gay footballers willing to 'come out'.

/// Firstly I’m not sure what her station is and quite why she should be seen above it is by no means clear. It all seems part of the dumbing down of the nation. Not so long ago young people had aspirations to achieve goals. Doing what Ms Balding does would be something many would aspire to. Now many of them seem only able to moan about their plight and denigrate anybody who has been the least big successful. ///

Hardly a prime example for all youngsters to aspire to, how many have had her start in life, she is hardly a working class girl who has risen to her dizzy heights, on her own initiative.

/// Balding's father is horse trainer Ian Balding who previously trained champion thoroughbred Mill Reef.[2] She was educated at Downe House in Berkshire, where she was Head Girl and a contemporary of comedienne Miranda Hart.[3] She applied to read law at Christ's College, Cambridge but failed her interview and realised that law was not what she most wanted to do.[2] She later successfully applied to Newnham College, Cambridge and read English.[4] While at university she was President of the Cambridge Union Society in Easter 1992 and graduated in 1993 with a 2:1 honours degree. ///

/// From 1988 to 1993, Balding was a leading amateur flat jockey and Champion Lady Rider in 1990. ///

/// (I now fully expect a similar response to this!) ///

Don't flatter yourself, I do not respond to 'finger snapping'.
have you listened to some of the garbage some of the male presenters have come out with over the years, sexist, racist, misogynistic, they only got away with it because it was all chaps in this together, that sport of whatever hue has long been male dominated. now some of the women have taken the spotlight they don't like it. Clare Balding is a very professional presenter, she is right, and you may not like her or what i said about Gary Lineker, but i stand by it. He is another old boy, in a club of old boys, time the ladies took the spotlight. Duffer goes back a long way, long before you and i were born..
see if i can find the footage of him firstly giving a Nazi, Roman salute, laughable not, then the other footage of him shoving a player, another of his abuse of the officials, crikey how many would it take. He said he is a fascist, not a racist, oh yeah...
