They will come out with their usual flannel to skirt round the issues. "god works in mysterious ways" etc etc

Its a miracle that they even believe the earth is spherical, so to get them to believe its over 10k years old will take some doing
@ymb Agreed. Nice scientific story. Been following some of it on Twitter feeds whilst working.

Some interesting findings - The universe appears to be slightly older than everyone thought, there may well be more dark matter out there than was previously thought, and there are indications from the data which tend to support the "inflation" concept.
That would be an ecumenical matter.
^^ heh Father Jack... :)
Does the Pope deny the Big Bang or does he say that it's all part of God's creation, which the Almighty followed by having man appear from a common ancestor with apes ? This proves there must be a god because only a god could create something clever enough to believe there's a god and then write books to prove it, by saying that the god inspired them (or some argument like that)
"But there are features in the picture, they add, that are unexpected and will require ideas to be refined."

See, that's science. If it were religion it would read:
"But there are features in the picture, they add, that are unexpected and will require the picture to be changed."
Drink. :)
I think dem der catholics believe in the Big Bang but believe that god instigated it, and they believe in evolution with god having a role in it ( but they do not explina the role) - but - there is a human soul and god created it.

Allegedly....
I don't think your senior cleric types believe any of the standard religious old pony anyway, they just treat it as a career. I mean it took a pope to get out calandar sorted out! I think they've worked out that you can have a life of luxury give the odd sermon, fake belief in something which, unless your IQ is less that your shoe size, you'd have to be completely insane to belive and enjoy the free ride. I've often envied the local vicar and indeed considered a career in the church myself, perfect career for an atheist.
it is one of these 3d magic eye picture things, i can see god laughing at you
If the universe was created by a big bang I wouln't expect it to be shaped like an egg. There must have been something else going on which we are unaware of.
it was laid by a giant chicken
Spot on Steg! God must have been a giant bird.
Belief or bisbelief in god has nothing to do with what happened after the big bang. After the big bang all is related to physics, geological and biological
evolution.
The cause of the 'big bang ' or any other reason for the creation is at the moment purely conjecture . The Pope has no reason to change his belief
in an imaginary , invisible entity, just because we can now 'see' what the universe looked like a fraction of a second after the big bang .
